Chapter 1
LIBERIA
Los Angeles, California (March 23, 2057)
"All we can do to save ourselves is to use this device," Dr. Nicolas Bolton announced while unveiling the cutting-edge technology believed to save the remaining 1 million people on Earth.
A sea of people gathered and hoped that this machine would save us and, ultimately, the whole human race from extinction.
"In about a few more minutes, we humans are going to be history! This world is dying, and so are we. Let us climb new heights and leave this rotten place," he added.
Our planet, named Earth, used to be very beautiful, teeming with life. In the history of mankind, living in such a paradise is nothing but a sinful dream.
In the sea of people, he smirked, as seen from the giant projection in the night sky. Dr. Nicola, the greatest scientist of all time, is about to change the fate of humanity.
As the Fluxx Wave Amplifier started to sound, boys, girls, young, and old felt the intense swirl of dark particles. We, the remaining humans in this war-torn world, were transported to another world.
__
We were all swept away by an unknown force. It feels like my body and soul are being torn apart. I can't force myself to ignore this unique feeling.
I don't know about the others, but it seems like I was transported inside a church-like building with statues all around me. I am shocked to find myself here, to be honest. I am the only one in my family who thinks that Nicola is just trolling. I can't help but be amazed. This environment is totally like a cathedral from online games where heroes are summoned. Am I some kind of legendary hero? Well, whatever. It will be a pain if that happens, given that I am not that reliable as a human being in the first place.
I was looking around the room when a book of some sort piqued my interest. For some reason, I felt a burning sensation in my chest when I touched it.
Aside from the title of the book, I can't understand the rest until it happened.
"The Light of Liberia."
Light flashed through the book, and the letters inside came out and surrounded me with haste. I don't know what is going on, but now I am sure that I have witnessed something magical.
After a few seconds, the light stopped. "Is that it?"
I was excited there for a second, but the hype that I felt is no more. After the flashing light and those words, I heard someone knocking on the door.
"So are you done now, kid?"
A huge man wearing full leather equipment came in with a scary look on his face and asked me to follow him. I was hesitant at first, but I still followed him.
"Grab onto me, kid."
He looked at me and smirked after saying that, and he took out some sort of stone from his pocket. I grabbed his cape, and then he shouted, "Liberia."
"LIBERIA!"
I remember this feeling; I'm getting transported again. For some reason, I felt a faint burn in my right hand and saw a white crest on it. And before I knew it, I was in front of a crowd.
You've got to be kidding me; this crowd is huge. Not as huge as the crowd earlier, but man, this is different. Their eyes are directed at me. Am I some kind of criminal now?
"What the heck is going on here?"
I'm not expecting someone to answer my question, but man, I am overwhelmed. It is a bit too late, but I really am in a new world.
