He felt broken. He felt like he was missing a piece that was required for him to function properly. But really, who could he blame but himself? It all started when Oikawa refused to spend time with his significant other, claiming that if he didn't spend all of his time practicing, there was no way his team could win.
"You already braced up one knee, you're gonna do it to the other as well? Or possibly something even worse?" His girlfriend said, her voice as stern as the look on her face.
"I know what I'm doing, F/N. I'm not a child you need to hover over." He spat back, tying his shoes.
"Oh, so now when I worry about you, it's considered hovering?"
"With the way you worry, yes. It's annoying as hell. So how about you give me some space and let me do what I need to do. I get that you're clingy and constantly need reassurance, but god, can you-" He stopped, soon realizing what he had just said. He soon heard sniffling behind him, he looked back to see tears rolling down his girlfriend's cheeks, her face turned away.
"After you're done, I think it's best you stay the night somewhere else." She whispered, just barely audible to the male.
He stood up, walking towards her. "F/N.. I-"
She shook her head, turning around as she walked back into their shared bedroom, closing the door behind her. He knew he messed up, and he knew he couldn't fix this right now. She needed time, and he probably did too.

He couldn't focus. He kept serving the ball only for it to go nowhere near his target. He was getting frustrated, cursing under his breath every time he messed up. By the time he was done practicing, he was ten times more aggravated than when he started. He stood there with his hands on his knees, tears of frustration threatening to spill from his eyes. He pulled out his phone, about to call Iwaizumi before he saw the background picture of his 2 year anniversary with F/N. They were happily smiling together as they waited in line for their favorite rollercoaster, Oikawa was doing his signature piece sign adorned with a wink, his girlfriend mimicking it to get a laugh out of him.
"I had a feeling you'd be here." He heard Iwaizumi's voice call from the gym doors. "I'm surprised L/N-san hasn't yelled at you yet for overworking yourself."
He lost his last bit of composure, no longer able to hold his tears back. He fell to his knees as he dropped his phone, holding his head in his hands.
Iwaizumi walked over to his sobbing friend, looking down at the same picture. "Or maybe she already did?" He asked, already having his answer.
"I keep messing up, Iwa-chan. I can't do anything right!" He shouted, hunching over even more. "I can't do anything right with volleyball, can't do anything right in my relationship, hell, chances are I've been doing everything else in my life wrong too!"
"You really are a piece of trash, ya know that?" Iwaizumi said, picking up his friends phone to examine it closer. "But if there's one thing that I know you've done right," he handed the phone back to him. "It's being with her."
Oikawa held the phone tightly as he looked at the picture again, his anger turning to sadness. "She's not gonna-"
"She'll forgive your sorry ass." Iwaizumi cut him off.
"But I-"
"Unless you cheated on her, I'd say you're probably in the clear. She's not one to let words hold more meaning than actions." He reassured his friend. "She knows you don't think before you talk. Trust me, she'll be making some sassy comment about whatever dumb thing you said in no time."
He held his hand out to Oikawa who still had tears rolling down his face. "C'mon, let's get you home, drama queen." Iwaizumi said, helping him up.
"She doesn't want me there.." Oikawa muttered, sniffling as he wiped his face off with his arm.
"Well you're still going back, because you sure as hell won't be staying with me." He began walking back to the door.
"What am I supposed to do? What am I supposed to say? I messed up.. I said things that probably made her feel so insecure.." Oikawa argued with himself.
"We'll stop on the way there, get her some flowers or something. Just don't go walking in there empty handed expecting an 'I'm sorry' to work like magic." Iwaizumi muttered.
"B-but flowers don't work on F/N!" Oikawa began panicking, not sure of what to do.
"Then what will?"
Oikawa paused, grabbing his chin in thought. Suddenly jumping while he gasped.
"I... I'll propose to her!"
"Dumbass! As much as I'm sure she'd love to marry you, Trashykawa, right now is not the right time!"
Oikawa thought for a while, making Iwaizumi become impatient. He gasped again suddenly, making his friend jump. "I've got it! Let's go!"
~~
He unlocked the door to the apartment, walking in to see the bedroom door still closed. He set down his bags and started to take off his shoes. He could hear sobs and sniffling from the bedroom. He gripped his shirt, his brows furrowing, feeling his chest tighten as the guilt rushed back to him.
He walked to the bedroom, opening the door slowly, peeking his head inside to see his girlfriend curled up on the bed, covered in blankets. He could tell that she tried to keep the sobs from coming out, but she was failing.
He sat down on the edge of the bed, putting his hand on the pile of blankets covering his significant other. "F/N sweetheart.. Can we move these blankets?"
He heard shuffling as the blankets moved, his girlfriends face peeking out from under them. Her eyes were red, along with her nose and cheeks. She still had tears in her eyes as she avoided eye contact with the male.
"I messed up, F/N.. even if I didn't mean the things I said, I never should have said them. I wasn't thinking.. I was being selfish and taking out all my frustration on you. You were right about me overworking myself, and I really do need to spend more time with you. You didn't deserve for me to treat you that way.." She looked up at him, sniffling as she wiped away her tears. He hesitantly lifted his hand to her face, rubbing her cheek with his thumb. "You mean the world to me, I hope you know that. If I ever lost you because of some idiotic thing that I said or did, I'd never be able to forgive myself.."
She sat up, tears brimming her eyes as she wrapped her arms around the boy. "You're so mean, To-kun." He chuckled sadly as he returned the hug, kissing her temple.
"I know, I'm sorry... But! I got you a few of your favorite treats, and I rented that movie you wanted to see." He watched her as she detached herself from him, swinging her legs off the bed to put on her slippers.
She smiled at him, "Thank you."
He grabbed the blanket as they walked into the living room, putting in the dvd and laying the snacks on the coffee table. He sat down, wrapping them up as she snuggled into his chest.
He ran his fingers through her hair, kissing her forehead. "I love you, F/N."
Her arms around his waist tightened, looking up at him and giving him a small kiss. "I love you too, Tooru."
