Day Two

8:45am

Jonathan POV

I woke up not to my clock, but to the sound of my phone buzz.

After rolling over I opened my tired eyes, and located my phone.

I slid it open, and entered my password. The message was from Bryce McQuad.

Its funny I never learned his last name until now.

I shrugged off the thought, and read the message.

Bryce McQuad: Hey man, how's your eye?

Jonathan: It's better than yesterday. Still hurts something terrible.

Bryce McQuad: Yeah, Ghost shot you right in the pupil.

Jonathan: He did apologize, and that's the important thing. Not how much it hurts.

Bryce McQuad: I would've shot him back, or made his sorry-butt pay for the doctor.

Jonathan: Trust me Bryce, I know.

Bryce McQuad: So how'd your shofur do?

I sighed, and typed up a quick reply.

Jonathan: He's not my shofur. I drove myself home.

Bryce McQuad: What?! He shot your eye, said sorry, and didn't even offer you a ride home? You were practically blind!

Jonathan: Number 1, his apology was sincere, Bryce. Number 2, he did ask if I wanted a ride home. I told him I'd be okay, and I was. No harm done.

Bryce didn't text me after that. For about an hour my phone was silent. I decided to take advantage of the situation to go make myself some coffee, and get a bowl of Captain Crunch.

I was just pouring the milk when my phone went off once again. I headed over to it, and read Bryce's reply.

Bryce McQuad: Jonathan, Evan isn't a good guy. Take it from me, he will ruin you. I promise you, he will.

He will ruin you.

I shivered at the message, as that sentence ran through my head.

What does Bryce know that I don't?

I pushed forward, wanting an answer.

Jonathan: What did he ever do to you?

Bryce McQuad: It wasn't me. It was my best friend, his callsign was Cartoons.

Jonathan: What happened between them? And what do you mean "was his callsign"?

I could almost hear him sighing, as he struck up a reply.

Bryce McQuad: He's in a hospital, Jonathan. Because of Evan. Because of what he did.

I decided I didn't want to hear anymore of it. I only met Bryce yesterday, he could be lying for all I know. I shut my phone down, and ate my cereal in silence. Letting my mind wander wherever it wanted. I don't usually enjoy doing this, but today my windows were open. The eerie scent of rain still lingered after the storm yesterday, and it was somewhat calming.

What if Evan is a bad guy?
