The rude awakening.

"What the hell was that?" I ask as we stare at the door, Eden sighs and relaxes against my chest.

"I don't know and I really don't care," she mumbles and I chuckle before kissing her head.

"Shower?" I suggest and she nods, I loop her arms around my neck before shifting us towards the end of the bed. "Hold on baby," I whisper before standing up, she giggles as I carry her into my ensuite bathroom before setting her down in the shower. She whimpers as my length slips out of her, "Are you alright?" "What happens now?" She whispers and I let out a sigh.

"Well I'd like to say we live happily ever after but this isn't a fairytale," I tease and she giggles causing me to smile widely. "What do you want to do with your life Eden?"

"Be happy mostly, find something I love to do-"

"Or someone," I wink as she blushes. "Do you want kids?" I ask and she nods before chewing her lip pensively.

"What about you?" She asks.

"Definitely, I've been so focused on my mum and my career that I never really allowed myself to slow down and have a relationship." I explain and her face drops, "until now that is." I add reassuringly, Eden's face lights up and I kiss her head gently. "My mum's health is better and my job is pretty well secured, I think it's time for me to be happy. I'm not getting any younger," I continue as she looks up at me.

"What was wrong with your mom?" Eden question and I sigh.

"After we moved here she got really sick, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. They did a hysterectomy but she still needed to do a few rounds of chemo, it was a really really long year. When they gave her a clean bill of health I don't think I've ever cried that much in my entire life." I explain softly as Eden looks up at me, her eyes sparkle with understanding as her fingertips trace my jaw. "You'll meet her in the morning, she's going to love you." I add and she smiles before her eyes flutter shut, "Go to sleep baby." I whisper before kissing her lips softly, she nuzzles against my chest as I wrap my arms around her and I fall into the most sated sleep I've ever had.

The next morning I woke up but Eden wasn't in bed, her towel was hanging over my chair so I check the bathroom but she's nowhere to be found. After pulling on some boxers I stride down to the kitchen to see Eden standing at the oven wearing one of my t-shirts and a pair of my boxers, I stop in my tracks when I see my mum enter from the other side of the kitchen.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know Harry had company," my mum says cheerfully. Eden jumps before turning towards her with a wide smile, she sees me and I send her a reassuring wink. "I'm Anne, his mum."

"Eden," she greets with a polite nod before going back to mixing whatever she was cooking.

"Eden Anderson?" My mum asks with a frown and my heart drops, "I think it's best you leave Eden." She says in a low voice as Eden's face drops, she turns and looks past my mum to me as I enter the room.

"That's not necessary mum," I assure her as I wrap my arm around Eden's waist. My mum narrows her eyes at me, "Eden isn't my patient anymore. She was never actually sick, she was misdiagnosed." I inform her and her face softens.

"I apologize Eden, I should have known my son wouldn't bring his work home with him." She says and I frown as she walks out of the room.

"I'm sorry about that, I'll talk to her." I whisper before pecking her lips, "Don't worry about breakfast. I'll take you out," I suggest and she shakes her head.

"I'm not very hungry," she mumbles before walking off to my room. I sigh and dump out the pancake batter before walking to my mum's room.

I don't bother knocking and she frowns as I enter her room, "what the hell was that?" I ask bitterly.

"I didn't raise you to throw your career away for some pretty girl Harry Edward Styles!" She snaps and I narrow my eyes at her.

"She's not my patient anymore and we-"

"I don't want to hear it, she's not welcome in this house. I saw her file Harry, I'm not going to support you being involved with a woman like that." She sneers, her voice low, threatening and nothing like my mother.

"You have no idea what she's been through, she was raped and has been haunted by demons ever since." I growl, "After everything I've done for you. After all we've endured together can't you be happy that for once I'm actually happy?" I retort and am met with a slap across my face, my mum's cold green eyes glare at me.

"I will never accept her, if you don't like it then you can leave with her." She hisses.

"Fine."
