Chapter One- Lea

Sunlight streamed in through my window and I rolled over when it hit my eyes. All I wanted was some more sleep, but life had other ideas. Crows outside were louder than ever and my alarm set off in that instant. I pulled my pillow over my head and screamed shut up, but it was no use.

Today was Saturday, but since I was up at 3:30am this morning texting Zoe Green (my unbiological sister aka my best friend ever), I forgot to turn off my alarm.

I picked up my phone from its perch on the floor and shut it off. Relief filled my ears and I closed my eyes again. Life must hate me right now however, because about 5 minutes later my mom burst into my room.

"Good morning sweetie!" She chirped.

I groaned and buried my face into my pillow again.

"Time to get up! We're going up to the lake today and you havent packed yet. Your brother packed yesterday and your Father and I just finished. So move it!" She said, her voice full of over enthusiasm.

I groaned again, and rolled onto the floor. With my blankets wrapped around my body, I opened my eyes all the way and sat up. I felt my hair sticking everywhere as I pulled myself off the floor.

"Come on Lea hurry up! We're leaving in an hour!" My mom called from downstairs.

I stood up and looked out the window. Right across from my window was Jackson High's very own bad boy, Indiana Walter's room. Indiana was the sexiest boy in the entire school, despite his bad boy reputation. In my opinion, it just made him that much more sexy. Zoe and I have been trying (and succeeding) to avoid him. It may seem like it makes no sense, but to us it does. Not only is Indiana the ultimate bad boy, but he is also the ultimate playboy. He has broken so many girls' hearts that we've lost count.

Unfortunately, the Walter family left for their new vacation house about a week ago, so I couldn't see Indiana in his pjs. I know that sounds creepy but if you had a hot neighbor, wouldn't you stare whenever you could?

Sighing, I opened my closet and threw on a pair of jean shorts and my Green Day tank top over my favorite bikini. Then, I tossed all of my shorts, shirts, tank tops, and pretty much my entire closet into my suitcase. We were going up to Lake Sunapee for the whole summer, and despite my morning mood, I was very excited.

After I finished packing, I grabbed my phone and called Zoe. It took a few tries, but she eventually picked up.

"What do you want?!" She moaned.

"Guess what today is!" I replied, completely ignoring her comment.

"What?" She mumbled.

"We're going up to the lake today!" I cheered.

I heard the sound of mumbling and a muffled thump.

"Zoe?" I said trying to contain a laugh.

"Yes?" She replied.

"Did you just fall off your bed?" I smirked.

"No." She was obviously lying.

"Well, maybe." She burst out laughing and so did I.

"Smooth." I managed between laughs.

“Bitch, fuck off. It’s the morning, I’m clumsy, it happens.”

I just smiled.

“Love you too Zoe.”

After a few minutes, we were both on speaker debating over what she should bring while I did my hair. We decided that Zoe should do the same thing I did: stuff pretty much all her summer clothes into a suitcase. After 20 minutes of talking and getting ready, my mom screamed for me to ‘get my ass downstairs’. So I said bye to Zoe and sprinted down the stairs.

“Sit down and eat. We have a long car ride ahead of us.” My mom berated. (She was exaggerating about the car ride. It was only about an hour and a half.)

I sighed and poured myself a bowl of cereal. After I was done, I put my stuff in the car, used the bathroom, put on my sunglasses, and hopped in the car. I was soon joined my mom, dad, and younger brother Evan (He’s 7). Instantly, everyone started talking. Mom and Dad started talking about my grandmother or something and Evan blabbered on about some random video game. So I did the one thing every girl does in the car: I put in my earbuds and blasted some Nirvana. (We stopped at Zoe’s place and picked her up before we actually took off though).

Zoe and I shared earbuds and talked about what we were gonna do, and we started with hot guy scouting at the beach. Next we were gonna go swimming, followed by lunch and tubing. By then it would be dinner time and then we would play manhunt with the other boys up there.

The ride was over before we knew it and we pulled into our driveway. The sky was cloudless and the water looked bluer than blueberries. Kids were playing on the swings and were running on the grass. Waves crashed on the beach and the sound of boat engines roared.   Zoe and I got out first and popped open the trunk. We both grabbed our stuff and dragged it over to our lake house.

The house was an old ski lodge, so it was huge. It was two stories and was a dark forest green. Windows covered the top floor and a screen porch was on the first floor. There was a falling apart stone wall in front of it and a huge staircase led up to the front door. The gravel driveway poked at my feet because I didn’t have my flip-flops on. I glanced at Zoe who was smiling at me like an idiot, and I returned it. This was going to be great summer I could feel it.

“Can I help you with your stuff?” A voice asked from behind me.

I whirled around and nearly dropped dead.

The voice belonged to the Indiana Walter.
