Chapter 2- Lea
I think I’m dreaming. I had to be! There was no way this is real life.
“Well?” Indiana asked again. He was clearly annoyed.
“No thanks. I got it.” I replied coldly.
I wasn’t going to fall for him. As sexy as he is and as much as I want to like him, I can’t bring myself to do it for two reasons. Number one, Zoe and I agreed to never fall for the bad boys, especially Indiana Walter. We both knew falling for Indiana or any other of his posse members would cause us a lot of pain. Pain that we didn’t wanna go through again. Reason number two, I can’t afford to risk going through the pain that Aspen brought me. Ever since Aspen and his posse, the only two males I can trust is my Dad and my other best friend Elliot. I don’t even fully trust Evan after what Aspen did to me and Zoe. My trust was shattered. Never again.
Indiana gave me a strange look, as if he knew there was no way I could do this by myself. I knew there wasn’t, but I didn’t want his help. I have to prove myself to not only me, but Aspen that I wasn’t a weakling. So, being the bitch I am, I fixed my grip on my suitcase and walked off, Zoe right by my side.
“You totally blew him off!” Zoe exclaimed.
“Shhh! He might hear you! But I was pretty cold wasn’t I?” I replied, thoughts of Aspen still floating around in my head.
“Yeah you were. You were pretty badass.” Zoe said, quieter this time, “Becka would’ve been so jealous of you! She probably would’ve killed you for talking to him like that actually. Or if you talked to him at all.”
“But he’s the one who started talking to me, not vice-versa.”
“She still woulda killed you.”
“Yep.”
Zoe and I continued to talk about random things until we entered the house. I opened the back door and breathed in the familiar scent of Sunapee. We went straight up to our rooms and unpacked. For some reason, Aspen wouldn't leave my head. He came up for a week last year and his faint scent still hung in the air. A picture of us on the dock was on the wall above my headboard and I took it down. I looked at the photo. Aspen and I were sitting together facing the sunset while kissing. I faced Zoe.
"We are burning this tonight." I said coldly.
"Agreed." She replied, just as cold.
Aspen Justice broke us, and we have yet to fix the pieces.

Zoe and I quickly finished unpacking and we headed down stairs. We put on sunscreen and put on our sunglasses.
"MOM! ZOE AND I ARE GOING TO THE BEACH!!! WE'LL BE BACK LATER!!!" I screamed.
Without waiting for a reply, we slipped on our flip flops, grabbed out beach bags, and headed outside. The sun beat down on us as we walked down to the beach and I felt eyes on my back. People were starring. But I did what any nerd would do. Ignore them and talk to my best friend on the planet.
The sand was hot on my toes as I laid out my towel next to Zoe's. I slipped off my Green Day tank top and shorts, grabbed my book from my bag, and laid down. Zoe did the same and the two of us read in silence. Well, despite the screaming kids and crashing waves and boat engines, it was pretty quiet. Not really. A few minutes later, random boys came over and started flirting with Zoe and I. We both turned all of them down, sometimes nicely and other times not so much.
I don't get what they see in me. I have longish, strawberry blonde curly hair and dull green eyes. I was only 5'4'' and I had an ok butt and some ok boobs. I just don't get it. Zoe wasn't much different than I was, but her hair was longer and she had brown eyes and she wore contacts. Other than that, we pretty much looked the same.
Boys wouldn’t stop coming over though, so eventually we decided it would be best to just go swimming. I sat up along with Zoe, put my book back in my bag, and pulled myself up. The sand was warm against my toes and the water looked crystal clear.
Waves pounded against the sand, I gave Zoe a ‘yolo’ look, and took a deep breath. I drove all thoughts from my mind and ran into the water.
The water was cold against my skin and instead of waiting for my body to adjust to the temperature, I dove right into the water. Zoe did the same. We both came up at the same time, screaming with joy. A few strange looks were shot at us but we totally ignored them. It felt so good to be swimming again. I burst out laughing along with Zoe, and we both dove under again. This time, I opened my eyes and saw the blurry underwater terrain around me. Even though this wasn’t the ocean, it was probably the best place for scuba diving around. My lungs started asking for air again, so I came back up to the surface. A stupid smile plastered my face and Zoe’s.
Some boys started giving us cat calls every once and a while, but Zoe and I just brushed them off and kept swimming. Everything was amazing, and I felt like I was on top of the world. I was swimming with my best friend, the water was amazing, hot boys scattered the beach, and best of all, no Aspen. Nothing was going to get in my way today.
After about 3 hours of swimming and laughing with Zoe, we finally got out of the water. My teeth were chattering slightly and so were Zoe’s. The sun was still high in the sky though, so we laid back down on our towels and started reading again.
My book was a horror novel, one of my favorites. I’ve probably read it at least 10 times, but who’s counting. It’s called Shadow’s of Winter, and it’s absolutely amazing. Zoe says I like horror too much, but she’s just as bad as I am, if not worse. All my favorite video games are old horror games, my favorite movies are horror, and so are my favorite books. So, as you can tell, I pretty much live off of horror. It’s probably not healthy how much I love it, but I don’t care.
I glance over at Zoe, who is reading The Fault In Our Stars. She looks over at me only moments later, an evil smile plastered on her face.
“Oh no.” I said.
“What?” She replied innocently.
“You that look on your face…”
“What look?”
“That evil one that usually ends up with us getting in trouble.”
She smirked at that.
“You know me so well.” She stated.
“So what’s the plan?” I ask, now curious as to what's going on in the mind of Zoe.
She smirked even more.
“Well…”
