She worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes

Hard liquor mixed with a bit of intellect

And all the boys, they were saying they were into it

Such a pretty face on a pretty neck

Thatch pov

"Why are you guys treating me like a baby?" I huffed. "Because you're new." Ace stated. "And because you'll get lost, yoi." Marco pointed out. "Aren't we gonna be late to class?" I asked. Ace shrugged, "It's only English." "Yeah but they'll grill me about it cause I'm new." I pointed out. Marco shrugged, "Its your loss."

'These fucking assholes. I should've just stayed at Raftel, rather than transfer willingly.'

We walked inside class, and I was baffled to see that the teacher wasn't even here yet. Everyone was yelling, and doing their own thing. Some were sitting on the desks, some were throwing things around, while some were just sitting quietly in the corner.

Marco nudged me, "Isn't that the chick you're supposed to marry, yoi?" I looked, and saw Kora sitting in the back corner, listening to music, and doodling. What baffled me was the fact that she still had a cigarette in between her lips. I nod, "Yep, that's her." I replied. "I'm still surprised that you're marrying the Mardelna Kora." Ace said as he sat on the window sill, Marco and I following, "She's something." I said. "It's just the fact that you're the one pretty much sacrificing yourself to her, yoi." "What do you mean by that?"

"Well, for starters, Kora is just...different from all the other girls here. She's ridiculously smart, but she just can't be bothered. She always looks like she murdered someone, she's kinda scary." Ace said. "She's also always in trouble for something at least every week, yoi. Whenever she gets into a fight she always wins, yoi. I think there was this one time where she literally shoved a girl down some stairs...I think that was Perona as well, yoi."

I thought back to last night, where she and I had begrudgingly agreed to the marriage, and then to when she was cuddling that shark, and fell asleep. I can remember calling that maid Anahera her Mother.

'I think there's more that meets the eye.'

I shrugged, "I'll be fine. You guys are just pussy's 'cause you're used to your hand at good girls." I notice both their eyes twitch. That got them.

"Oi."

Everyone was silent. They all were baffled when they saw Kora standing in front of me, her arms crossed, and her expression looking seemingly annoyed. "Hey." I greeted. She grabbed my wrist, "You're sitting with me." She demanded. "Wait, I never agreed to this-" "Huh, I think I just heard the excuse train coming to run your ass over." Kora hissed. "Kora-" "That's Shogun to you, chicken run." Kora growled

'Chicken run? I need to know the story of that nickname.'

"Guys, just leave it, I'll sit with her." I sighed. Ace puffed out his cheeks, "Shogun, don't murder him." Kora winked at him, "Don't you worry your pretty boy ass, Portgas. You of all people should know I can't harm a single hair on him." Kora turned to me, "You know what? Since the teacher is never here," Kora starts dragging me, "let's go on an adventure!" "If you'll insist." I sighed, not even bothering anymore.

We sat on the rooftop of the school. "I'm surprised that you willingly went with me." Kora said. "You'd probably have dragged me here either way." I said. Kora chuckled, tossing her cigarette over the edge, "We don't even know each other, and you already know me so well."

I sat down, my feet dangling over the edge, Kora following suit, "I haven't even started school for an hour, and I'm already dwindling down a line of trouble." I said. "It's what happens when you hang with me." She said. I looked at her, "Why'd you drag me up here?" I asked. "Cause everyone was being noisy." Kora replied cooly, "And because Chicken Run was annoying me." "He's not that bad, he just has a hundred layers of asshole." I stated. Kora laughed, "That's far too real. He only hates me because I beat up his old ex." "Which one?" I asked. "Kyona." "Oh yeah her, she's crazy."

'I think if people actually talked to her, they'll find she's not that bad.'

"So, how did you come up with the nickname you gave to Marco?" I asked. "Chicken Run? Oh, I dared him to run across the school field wearing a chicken suit. My fuck, he was drunk." She sniggered. "Maybe that's why he hates the movie Chicken Run." She snorted, "Probably."

We went silent after that, or well I thought we did. It wasn't until I saw Kora genuinely smile. "What are you smiling about?" I asked. She pointed towards a window, "See that idiot with the red hair? That's my best friend." I looked, and recognised him as the guy I bumped into the morning. "Oh him, he's new as well, right?" I asked. She hummed in response. I looked further in, and I felt myself smile when I saw her. Silver hair that was briskly tied back in a pony tail, her violet eyes concentrating.

'Valkiria...you've come back to me.'

Kora followed my gaze, "You got the hots for that silver chick?" She asked. I found myself stammering, "NO!" "Oh, so you do." "SHUT UP!" She chuckled, "Well, if it makes you feel any better, I like Shanks...my best friend." i stopped freaking out, "Really?" I asked. She shrugged, "Yeah, it's mutual." She said. I sighed, "You can't tell anyone." "Who have I got to tell? Besides, same goes for you....or you're a fucking dead man." She threatened.

'Feelings not mutual my ass.'

The door flew open.

"MARDELNA KORA WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT LEAVING CLASS!" Mr Sakazuki yelled. Kora groaned, "Oh god, you exist." "NO BACKCHAT MISSY! I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU'VE EVEN DRAGGED A NEW KID UP HERE!" "He's my fiancé, fuck twat." Kora huffed. "FIANCE OR NOT, YOU'RE A BAD INFLUENCE." Kora stood up, "Hey buddy, you better stop yelling, and not give me a detention before I tell the whole school your secret love affair with Mr Caeser, and how you bought some hard out bioweapons from him." He flinched, "You wouldn't dare." Kora smirked, "I will do it."

'Wait what the fuck just happened?!'

Mr Sakazuki growled, "Fine, just get to class." Kora stood up, me following suit, "Thanks, sir."

We left the rooftop, and I stared at her in disbelief.

Did that seriously just happen?
