Sarah walked down the hall with her head down, trying not to attract any attention.
She was on her way to the canteen to eat her lunch, and she was hoping River had somehow managed to reserve the small table right at the back.
River was one of her close friends, who loved bands. Lots of bands. Ty was the other friend, who also liked bands.
They were odd, it was a fact, however Sarah found herself unable to talk. She was worse.
The canteen was busy as usual, but fortunately River had reserved the seats. Sarah smiles with triumph, not that she did anything, and ran over to the table, flopping into a chair and getting her food out.
"Sup," she said breathlessly.
River nodded, and Ty smiled.
"Busy day?" Ty asked, trying to think of ways to begin a conversation.
"Well...I had Art...and Drama."
"Was that with that kid?" River raised an eyebrow.
"What, James?" she frowned, and Ty perked up.
"Yeah, that one who has this crush on you and-"
"He doesn't have a crush on me." she interrupted, even though she wasn't sure herself. "Either way, I don't see him like that."
James and Sarah were childhood buddies. They were like brother and sister, and James's parents had pretty much adopted her. She hadn't been round his for years, and he was always pestering her about it.
"He gave me an offer..." she said, rather suddenly. "To join his funny drama club."
"Fat chance." he snorted, and Ty glared at him. "What? It's not like Sarah is actually going to join a drama club...unless Peter's there."
"Peter Peterson......." Ty trailed off.
"That's not his name. It's Lowell...and shut up River."
"You like him."
"No I don't," she hissed. "Crushes are pointless... it's not like your crush ever likes you back."
River and Ty looked at their feet glumly, both of them having crushes of their own. River fancied this girl called Alex, and Ty liked James.
"Wow...that went deep. Sorry, guys," Sarah bit into her sandwich, guilt in her eyes.
"No it's alright," River smiled. "You're right."
They were silent for a while, until Ty spoke up, "Alex likes you though. She keeps staring at you during Science."
"How would you know? You're not in my class."
"I know," Sarah piped up. "I've seen her."
Someone cleared their throat, and she jumped out of her skins.
"For crying out loud, James!" she cried. "Don't do that!"
"Sorry," he smiled sheepishly.
James was one of those school heartthrobs, and he had no idea. He was really tall, and he had brown curly hair and just generally looked good.
Let's just say, Ty was staring at him. Again.
"What's up, brethren?" she looked up at him.
"Did you think about the drama club?"
"I did. Who's going, exactly?"
James thought for a moment, "I don't know... Peter's going...and I think that girl called Alex and that Matilda kid go."
"I'm listening," River grinned. "Know anyone else?"
"Allison? Nick? Jamie? I don't know, but I think a lot of the popular kids go."
"Allison isn't popular," Ty snorted. "As if. She's way too into Star Wars to be popular."
"I know that," he laughed, and Ty internally screamed.
"I don't know if I'll go...." Sarah mumbled.
"Sign me the heck up!" River yelled, and Ty silently agreed.
"Oh? What changed? A minute ago you didn't want to do it."
"You don't understand." he hissed.
"So," Sarah ignored him. "When is it?"
"Every Friday and Monday after school. Six formers only."
She clapped her hands and grinned, "You're in luck, because you have three willing volunteers."
REALLY SHORT IM SO SORRY I JUST REALLY WANNA GET TO IT
