CHAPTER ELEVEN
My eyes were hazy as I sipped on my coffee. Four in the morning and I'm still awake. When I laid down for bed, sleep was absent. For hours I tossed and turned until I finally decided to just get out of bed. Maybe it had to do with the fact that Asher was just a wall away. Asher was in the room right next to mine and Alexia's with Jason.
I walked out onto the balcony so as not to awake Alexia. Leaning against the side of it, I stared up at the night sky. No stars were visible due to all the bright lights and pollution of Las Vegas. I sighed and closed my eyes, my thoughts trailing to the witch murders. I hoped to be the one to kill that bastard. Tyler Clemens did not deserve to live.
"Whatcha thinking about?" Asher called from his balcony.
"Death," I replied darkly.
"That's...fun," he said.
"Whatever," I muttered. "I'm going inside now."
"You can't ignore me forever," Asher insisted.
"I can damn well try," I told him and walked back into the hotel room.
*********************************************************************************************** I frowned at my reflection; the bags were dark and prominent under my eyes. Sighing, I grabbed a pair of shades and pushed them up onto my nose. After brushing out my hair and tying it back, I was ready to go. The boys were waiting downstairs in the car for us. I smirked, enjoying the fact that Asher was forced to wait on us. I bet his impatience was just killing him.
I got into the driver's seat and was soon speeding down the freeway. We stopped every once in a while for a bathroom break and to get some food, but we never stayed anywhere for too long. Once we were in California, then we could stop at a diner or something.
"We just passed the Welcome to California sign!" Jason announced. "Can we stop at a diner now?"
"Fine," I huffed. "We can go to there. To that Red's Fine Diner."
"Yes!" Jason cheered. "Food!"
"It's not like you were starving, Jace," Alexia rolled her eyes. "How much food do you really need to eat?"
"I'm a growing boy, Lex," Jason told her as if that explained everything.
"You two remind me of my brother and I," I laughed.
"Oh, yeah. How is Derek?" Asher asked conversationally.
I didn't say anything, just shot him a glare and got out of the car. I heard him mumble something about me being a stubborn witch. We were seated as soon as we entered the diner. I scanned the menu quickly before putting it down. I stood up and went to the bathroom. When I came back to the table, Asher was flirting shamelessly with the waitress. My jaw clenched and I sat down stiffly.
"I'll take a diet Pepsi," I ordered.
"Anything else for you?" The waitress asked, pen positioned over her note pad.
"That's all for me." I turned to Alexia and Jason. "Did you guys already order?"
"Yeah," they both nodded.
