~Sean~
I felt a slight pain on the side of my head as I faded back to existence. I tend to zone out a lot, which is probably why a pencil was just thrown at my head.
"Hellooo? Sean!" The voice caught my attention as I looked up from my desk. "Do you need to go to the nurses office? I can't have you daydreaming in my class"
I finally spoke up, "No Ms. Goren, I apologize." The teacher sighed and glanced back at the board. I leaned my head against my hand and stared out the window.
It was nearing the end of the school day and i genuinely could not wait to get out of this hellhole. I glanced back over to the desk in front of me. Where my friend Emily sat. I took a few strands of her long hair and twiddled it between my fingers a bit.
She doesn't really care when I do so, which makes sense considering the fact that we've known each other for quite a long time.
A high-pitched sound rang through my head as the schools bell went off. Ms. Goren began to speak, "Listen up everyone, don't forget to finish tonight's homework and remember to study for the upcoming midterm next Monday!" Her relieved countenance showed she was equally as glad the period was over as I was.
I reached out for my bag when suddenly the desk in front of me began to tremble a bit. The position I was standing in made me feel a bit off balance as this happened, causing me to nearly fall over.
"Whoa, you alright there Sean?" Emily reached out to help me keep my balance. "Don't fall and break your neck now," She chuckled.
"Oh shut up! Did you not even notice that? It was kind of like a small earthquake." I continued to pick up my bag and swing it onto my back. I looked around noticing the few other students who hadn't yet left the classroom had slight looks of surprise on their faces. Well, they sure noticed.
"Yeah but who cares anyways let's get outta here already." She grabbed my arm and dragged me out the classroom.
We began to walk home together like we usually do. "Hey let's cut through the park, I kinda feel like taking our time getting home today honestly. I don't have much to do other than homework when I do get there."
Although I did want to go home and play video games I didn't mind taking some time out of my day to hangout. It has been a while since I've been to the park. "Sure, why not"
We walked around the park for a bit, watching the birds as they flew through the park's trees. "Hey I just realized doesn't it seem a bit empty outside today?" I searched around only seeing one or two people in the park around us. Usually it's filled with children running around and enjoying their youth.
"Yeah I guess so, it's almost as if they know something we don't", she jokingly replied. Just as Emily said that the ground began to rumble again. Although this time it wasn't as small as it was before.
"What the heck!?" I looked toward Emily then the others left in the park. They had equally terrified expressions as I did. As quickly as the rumbling stopped many car alarms began to go off afterwards.
Emily who now had a panicked expression looked back at me. "Okay let's seriously get home now this is freaking me out." She grabbed my arm once again and lead me out of the park.
When we eventually got to the point we had to split up and go our separate ways, she looked at me with a worried expression on her face. We both turned around and rushed toward our homes with only the many possibilities of what could be going on crossing through our minds.
Just about when I was halfway down the block to my house, I looked up toward the bright blue sky. Or.. at least it was blue before several dark gray clouds settled into the sky. 'What's going on? It wasn't supposed to rain today'
My thoughts were interrupted by a blast of wind to my face as I heard a loud explosion in the distance. Screams slowly following after. I saw people running down the sidewalks and cars speeding down the road as the roads began to traffic.
My entire body stiffened and froze up as I watched the scene around me unveil.
The road began to cave in as cars sunk into the ground. I suddenly mustered up enough courage to run toward my house but just before I started to move a crack split across the rest of the road and sidewalk, splitting open the ground between me, and the only way to my home.
The ground began to cave in closer to me. I turned around and ran in the other direction and watched as people began to ditch their cars grabbing their children and also running in the same direction. I noticed some people weren't quick enough to save their families from the chaos going on around us and cried as they let the destruction overtake them.
I myself began to cry just as it started to rain. The ground rumbled aggressively. I ran and ran until I could barely breathe, then I stopped running. I looked around the cement breaking and the ground sinking. I looked at the trees falling over pulling the ground up with their roots. I watch as buildings fell apart and lightning set streets ablaze.
After minutes of what felt like hours the clouds were gone. All that was left was a clear, black, empty sky.
Then everything began to fade. I couldn't tell if I was fainting or dying. I looked down at my hands as they turned translucent. I watched as my entire existence was taken apart piece by piece.
Then just as I began to lose consciousness.. I looked up. Everyone else was beginning to fade too. As if we never existed in the first place. Everyone was disappearing one by one... And then everyone and everything was gone...
Including me.
