Chapter 6 - The Encounter

They finally reached The Hill. Lana was thinking of a possible excuse to tell the guards when they approach the gated subdivision but the gates automatically opened when they got close enough. Lana checked the car's windshield and saw a sticker of The Hill. Daniel must live here. She was driving real slow as Jungkook pointed the directions to their apartment. He didn't say much during the trip and she does not want to push him. He went through enough stress tonight.

Bring her with you, RM sent Jungkook a message.

Lana parked the car in front of their building and smiled at Jungkook. He gave Lana a faint smile. "Come with me," he said. Lana was a bit confused but maybe his manager wanted to thank her. Lana got her shoes from the back seat and went outside. Jungkook led the way and they went straight to the second floor, still not talking to each other.

Jungkook entered the passcode to their apartment's door. He slowly opened it, unsure about the other members' reaction. He walked slowly towards them as she peeked while hiding from his tall figure.

Yoongi stood and rushed towards Jungkook. "What did you do to him?!" he yelled at her.

Yoongi didn't even wait for her to answer. He grabbed Jungkook's shoulders and checked. "Are you okay?" he asked.

"Hyung..." Jungkook called. Yoongi stopped shaking Jungkook's shoulders but panic is still written all over his face.

"Jungkook, you made us worry. We asked the bodyguards to return and get you but you weren't there anymore. Where were you?" Jin asked calmly.

She was planted, standing behind Jungkook. She has been with him for almost two hours now. They are not close and she just (officially) met him today but between the six pairs of eyes death-staring at her and Jungkook, she'd choose Jungkook's familiar yet confused eyes. The only thing she can do is hide and avoid meeting their eyes.

"Give me your phone," Suga told her as he opened his palms.

She checked her pocket and realized that she left her phone with her bag at the hotel. "I think I left it at the hotel." She does not know why but her reply softened Yoongi's expression.

"C'mon guys. I think she's not a sasaeng. She drove Jungkook all the way from Songdo back to our dorm. If she's with the press or a wild fan, she could have done something already." It was Hoseok. Lana finally understood what is happening and it took her by surprise. They thought I would do something to Jungkook. Well that kinda hurts.

"But she knows where we live now," Jin broke the silence. Lana looked at him with disbelief.

"Yah! I do not want to know where you live but the vans chased us! I had no choice!" She finally defended herself. Jin looked surprised that she managed to reply in straight Hangul.

RM asked Jungkook what really happened and he told him the whole story. He mentioned the part where Lana took off her pumps so she could drive better, and that Lana even scared the press when she stepped on the gas while they are still in front of our vehicle. Jungkook said that it was Lana who reminded him to call RM when they first got into the car, and again to text them that he's safe when they got rid of the vans chasing after them. Finally, he touched the cap on his head and looked flustered when he looked at Lana. "She protected me, hyung."

They were quiet until Kim Taehyung, the last member that Lana hasn't met yet, approached her and gave Lana a hug. "Thank you for saving our Kookie," he said while giving Lana his square smile. She faintly smiled back at him but still offended by the fact that they thought she would kidnap Jungkook.

"I should go now," Lana said while scanning the room. They were all looking at her now and she felt embarrassed with their attention on her.

"This is not mine so I should get it back," She told Jungkook and got the cap off his head. Lana smiled at him and messed his hair while still tiptoeing.

Jimin then approached Lana and held her left hand. "Lana, we're sorry. We just panicked and we do not want anything to happen to Jungkook." He gave her a soft hug and Lana tapped his shoulders, letting him know that she was okay.

"It's okay Jimin, I understand." By that time, RM, Jin and Yoongi were all looking down, feeling embarrassed on how they acted towards her. Still, Lana does not want any misunderstandings between them so she clarified the situation even if they didn't ask her to.

"I was accepted at UNICEF and was on my way to Korea when we got on the plane together. I am a UN employee that's why I have a special passport. Since you attended a UNICEF event, I was there as part of the organizing team. I am sorry if I caused any panic tonight but I acted based on what I thought was best for Jungkook." Lana immediately turned around and went straight towards the door without even waiting for their reply. She closed the door and let out a loud sigh before going back to the car. She returned Daniel's cap in the compartment, her fingers trembling from what just happened.

Lana turned on the GPS and pressed HOME. Daniel's building is just up the hill and she parked his car outside the building. Lana yelled "Daniel!" and saw a light turned on coming from one of the windows. Daniel peeked and smiled when he saw Lana.

"You okay?" He asked her as soon as he got out of the building and handed Lana her bag that was left at the hotel.

"Umhm." Lana gave him a nod. "I was caught in a mess earlier but it's all fine now. Thanks for letting me borrow your car," She smiled at him.

"No worries. See you at work on Monday?"

"Yup! See you Dan!" Lana turned around and removed her pumps. She started jogging barefoot and eventually removed her blazer. She felt the breeze and slowed down to look up at the stars. Lana smelled, still thankful that she is fulfilling her dream. This is just a glitch, she told myself.

Lana was busy walking down The Hill that she didn't notice passing by someone at the park. His gaze followed her until she got out of the exclusive village. "I am sorry," Jin murmured to himself.
