I Will Always Defend My Girl

The bell rang, ending second period. I went to my locker in order for me to get my textbook and folder for Math that I had next. I looked around the hall, looking for Kevin, however I could not find him. 

I wonder where he is? He told me that he would meet me by my locker during passing period. 

While my attention was focused on that, I did not pay attention to my surroundings. Therefore, I missed the click & clack noise from the high heels that were coming towards my way.  All of a sudden, I am turned around and facing the "Divas," more like the DEVILS. 

"Hey four eyes. Who are you looking for? Is it your so called "boyfriend?" Maya asked me. 

The "Divas" are the school's most popular girls and the most meanest ones  The "Divas" include Ariana, Stephanie, and Maya. They are always bullying, torturing, and hurting students. I am, unfortunately, one of them. I wear glasses and they make fun of that, calling me "four eyes." And there is my boyfriend, Kevin. Kevin is not a normal student at this high school. He is actually the captain of the basketball team here. Kevin is athletic, well built, and a very smart guy. Girls want him and boys envy him. I sometimes find myself lucky to have Kevin as my boyfriend. 

However he always tells me, "I am the lucky one that I got such a beautiful, smart, and a fabulous girl as my girlfriend."

Kevin and I are in the same batch; currently we are seniors. He asked me out during sophomore year. I know Kevin since elementary school, but I never talked to him. Obviously because he was popular and I was the quiet girl. I was really surprised, though, when he asked me out on a date.

I was walking to my class when he came up to me and asked me, "Hey Sarah. I wanted to ask if you would like to go out for movie and dinner with me?"

I thought he was playing with me and this was a joke. However I was wrong. The date was absolutely wonderful and I had a great time. He really worked hard for this date. I thought we were going to the theater for movies, but he actually made a movie night for the date.

See now, Maya hates that I have Kevin and she does not. She has been pinning over Kevin since freshmen year. However Kevin knows what kind of a person Maya is and he does not want to be with her. He has even told her multiple times, however she can't get it in her thick head. 

"Leave me alone. I really do not want to talk you Dev- I mean you guys." Right now they are the least people who I want to see right now or even interact with. However they do not get the idea. 

"Oh look. "Four eyes" here knows how to talk to back. Say where is your "boyfriend" of yours. I bet he is with someone who is actually pretty. Not someone like you." Maya sneers. I know I should not pay attention to her words or believe it however it does not stop me from thinking of all the scenarios in my mind and bringing back my insecurities. I hate to admit it but Maya is right; what does Kevin see in me? Am I really worth it? What if all of this is just an illusion? All these negative thoughts kept on buzzing in my mind. 

"Ha! Look who has the nerve to speak up once for herself rather having her boyfriend save the damsel in distress. But I know that this is a facade. You are actually scared and all that I am saying is really the truth. Don't you think so?" Ariana replies back.

I know they are trying to get me into believing them however I can't let that happen. That's all lies. Kevin would never hurt me or betray me. I just need to ignore them and walk away. 

I start to turn around and walk away however I am turned back around.

"Where are you going. Can't handle the truth. Do you have an owie? Need Kevin to fix it for you?" They all start teasing and making remarks at me. The students can see the Devils laughing and torturing me, however they won't say anything. Not unless they want get bullied back. I try to walk away again however Stephanie has a strong hold on my arm. 

"Look. I have no time for your nonsense so it would be better to let go of my hand and leave me alone. Otherwise I can call any teacher or administrative member and get you all in trouble. So unless you do not want to walk the stage, it is in your good behalf to quit annoying me!" 

Wow! I never thought I can do that. But let me tell you, that felt amazing.  It is about time someone stood up for themselves in front of these Devils. It seems though that they did not like that. 

Maya started getting angry and Stephanie was almost squeezing my wrist. Probably sure that it is going to leave a bruise on me. 

"Listen here "four eyes," if you think you can talk to me like that and get away then oh how you are so wrong. You better make sure you are watching your back because I wil-"

"Will what?" A deep voice behind me asked. All of us froze. Instantly Stephanie's hand was gone from my wrist. 

Kevin.

"You will do what Maya? Tell me. I want to know what you will do to my girlfriend." Kevin came up to me and placed his hand on my waist. He seemed very angry and was frowning at the girls. 

"N-n-nothing Kevin. We were just talking. Right guys?" Maya gave out a nervous chuckle and the others were agreeing with her. I did not say anything. The Devils started to walk away.

Maya, wait." Kevin called out. I looked at him but he did not look back at me. Maya, Stephanie, and Ariana stopped and turned around to face us. Kevin dropped his hand from my waist and walked up to them.

"You better quit your bullying and torturing the other students. Cause if I ever see again one of you bullying someone, I won't even think twice before telling the principle about your tactics. Then I want to see how you'll explain to your parents why you can't walk the stage. As for me and my girlfriend, then for your own sake stay away from us. I won't be standing here and watching you insult my girl like that. Remember I have my whole team, my group of friends, and my girl's friends who can cause you trouble. I'm pretty sure you don't want that right? So stay away from us and don't bother any other students. Got that?"

Maya, Ariana, and Stephanie faces were white and pale as if they saw a ghost. I was behind Kevin shocked as were the students in the hallways. There were some who had a grin on their faces happy to see someone stood up in front of the meanies. They nodded their heads and walked away, more like run. 

I saw Kevin's shoulders relax and took a long sigh. He turned to face me and smiled. He came up to me, placed his hands around me, and gave me a short, sweet kiss. 

"You good"? he asked with a smile. He placed one of his hands under my chin, making me look up at him. 

"Yeah. Thank you for standing up for me. But you did not have to do that. I could have just walked away."

"I know that you can defend yourself. However I too want to be there to save you. Never think that I consider you a damsel in distress. No, that's wrong. I know you are strong and brave and have lots of courage. But I would also like to defend my girl once in a while. It is my right." He game me a few more pecks and hugged me tightly. 

I smiled at him. "Of course."

He grins back at me and gives me one more kiss which lasts a little longer. "Come on. Let's go to math. I am not about to listen to Mrs. Grump's boring lectures alone." I laugh at him. 

He holds my hand and we go to math class together.
