Chapter 02
This was the most awkward moment in my life. Not one of the awkward moments. It was the awkward moment. I've never sat beside a boy since I've matured. If you know what I mean. I have been friends with male students but that was when we were young. I even sat with them, played with them. But this--
"Hey," He whispered suddenly.
Awkward.
I don't know what to reply to that. I could just say a simple 'hey' but am scared it might give him a boost to start a conversation with me. I pretend not to hear him as I look down in my book. I drown myself in my professor's lecture but neither of it helps.
"Will you look at these clothes." he lets out a low whistle, "Do you have some contagious disease?" He says.
I turn to look at him now. Contagious disease? Why would I be wearing something if I had a contagious disease?
"Thought so. Hello," He said, smirking. "You can hear me now"
"Hi" I say with the least enthusiasm.
"Can I look into your text book? I don't have mine" He said. I push my book towards him. "Hey, we can share"
"I'm done reading" I answer looking everywhere but him. But, I could still see him from the corner of my eye.
"Alright," He says and turns to look into the book. I sigh and am glad he's done with his part of talking.
After about what looked like 5 minutes, he places my book in front of me. "I'd better not read this shit again"
"You're welcome" I reply hoping he keeps quiet now.
He chuckles suddenly and said, "Thank you."
I gave a slight nod.
"But, it really didn't do any good to me. If giving me a headache is good, then it's helping"
"You might want to change your subjects then" I said. I regret talking more than required. But he is leaving me no choice. I turn to look at him now ready to pounce any second. I might not have spoken to a lot of boys, okay any boy, since my high school but I knew enough on how to deal with them.
"Trust me, this is the only decent one among them" He replied.
"You're right though" I agreed.
"My name is Zayn" He starts, "Zayn Malik"
I raised an eyebrow at him. He laughs and correct, "Zayn Siddique"
I nod. "Yeah, that's a good name" I reply. I didn't know how to respond to that. It's not like am going to go like 'I am Marina Qawi'. No way.
"I thought it was how people introduced themselves." He said looking confused.
"Oh? How do you normally introduce yourself then?" I ask.
"You really want to know?" He asked, his smirk returning back. Okay, I think I wouldn't wanna know.
I shake my head and look at the professor trying to keep up with his lecture.
"What's your name?" He asked. I pretend I didn't hear him as I start copying my syllabus for the month that the professor wrote on the board. Zayn takes my note book in the blink of an eye. Before I know, he's searching for my name.
"Maraina?"
He's annoying.
"It clearly says Marina" I snap rather calmly, not bothering to look at him.
