So it was finally lunch and I was having a pretty good day, met a few nice people and I felt so welcome. As I was ready to pay, a tall boy shoved me I stumbled and nearly tripped , thankfully my tray was still in my hands. I was pretty annoyed and was ready to put him in his place when I looked at him and realised how attractive he was. He looked really guilty for some apparent reason.
"I'm terribly sorry, it was an accident." he stated.
For some reason I couldn't seem to come up with any coherent words so I continued to stare.
"Here, lemme pay for your lunch" he said handing the lady his lunch card.
"No it's fine, my food didn't fall" I replied politely.
"It's the least I can do really, I'm sure it hurt"
"WHEN YOU FELL FROM HEAVEN BAE" the guy behind him said grinning. I'm guessing he was the one who shoved him. I just ignored him.
"Thank you er..." I asked
"Zack, and you?" he smiled. Damn, he had nice teeth.
"My name is Julie"
"People call me Mike, but you can call me tonight" Mike suggested. Zack nudged him in the ribs and it looked like it was sore. What do I say to that? This guy seriously needed better pick up lines! I settled for laughing lightly.
Once we all paid for the lunches I didn't know where to sit. Zack and Mike were headed one direction but I didn't want to seem clingy so I waited for them to walk a couple steps ahead so I didn't depict desperation. Mike looked back and gestured for me to walk faster so I upped my pace a little. Their table was very diverse. There were girls, boys, African Americans, Asians and Latinos. I sat down across from a really pretty blonde girl. I'm guessing she was from America. She smiled and introduced herself
"I'm Rachel, you must be new here?" she asked.
"My name is Juliana but everyone calls me Julie." I replied. Everyone was pretty inviting they all looked up and smiled.
"So where are you from?" Zack asked seeming really intrigued.
"My dad is African and my mom is American,"
"So what does that make you African American?" Mike said proudly.
"Kinda, anyway I moved here from Phoenix, Arizona"
"Cool" said Zack.
"Your hair is awesome, were you born with a fro?" a girl asked
"Yeah, except it was a lot shorter you could say"
We spent the remainder of lunch talking and laughing. They seemed like a nice bunch, hopefully I see them around more.
Toward the end of the day, I texted my dad saying that I'm going to track tryouts.
"Text me when done" he replied instantaneously.
After school I was given the running kit so after school I went to the locker room and changed into that.
I made my way out to the school track like the poster said at 4pm. I then sat on the floor and waited around for more people to come out. I saw a few girls coming out and a wave of relief washed over me.
"Track tryouts are here right?" I asked them kindly.
"Yeah" they replied simultaneously like all three of them. I laughed along with them.
"I'm Julie by the way"
"Nikki, Sarah, and me Lydia" Lydia replied pointing to the different girls.
