Chapter 1

It had been a long time since I had seen my mother smile. She always sat in her chair, tears in her eyes. She had a lot to cope with; the loss of our loved one and divorce, both had taken a toll on me as well, but I just couldn't stand it any longer. Nothing made sense there, I was just living in the past. So I decided it would be best for me to move in with my father, all the way in Sydney Australia. To start a fresh new life, and so that's what I did.

It was Monday, the day I start my new school, with completely new people. I eventually woke up after pressing the snooze button for what felt like a million times. I stepped in the shower and scrubbed my body until I was clean. When I got out I picked out my outfit; a nirvana tank tee, black skinny jeans and combat boots. Simple yet comfortable. I applied some foundation, mascara and eyeliner. It's weird how a black line across your eyelid can make you 10X happier with your appearance.

I ran down the stairs into the kitchen where my dad was sat reading the newspaper and sipping tea. "Hey sweetie" he smiles, "breakfast is on the side" "No, thanks, dad, I need to get going, I don't want to be late on my first day of school" I grab my backpack and fling it over my shoulders. My dad gets up from the table and pulls me in the a tight-hug "I am so proud, good luck princess" He said with a huge grin on his face. I giggle and push him off of me. "Thanks dad" I chuckle.

"You must be Lucy?" A blonde girl asks. I nod "I'm Ashley, can I see what classes we are in together?" I hand her my timetable and she gasps with excitement. "We are in almost all the same classes!" I try my best to sound slightly enthusiastic to be in the same classes as Ashley but I'm not quite fond of human beings, despite the fact I am one myself. "Here, I'll show you where music is" she grabs me by my hand and drags me down the hallway full of sweaty teenage kids. Gross. "Here" and she opens the door for me to enter.

"Oh, Lucy, these are my friends!" She squeals. Calm down. "This is Luke" she gestures to a tall boy with piercing blue eyes and perfect blonde hair. "and this is Ashton" He was also tall and had the most beautiful green eyes I've ever seen. I felt as though I got lost in them for a moment. "Luc-Lucy!? You in there!?" Ashley babbled whilst waving her hands in my face "huh, oh yeah" I blush "and this is Michael and Calum" they both greet me in sync. I feel someone tap my arm and I jump around startled to find Ashton standing there biting his lip.

"So, Lucy, how are you liking the new school?" He asks.

"Urr.. It's pretty good"

"Perhaps sometime I can show you around?" He suggests

"Yeah, I'd like that" I'd like that!? man I'd love that!

"Actually, how about I show you around right now?"

He walks over to the teacher and mumbles to him then gestures me to follow him.

"soo.. This is the arts and performing thingy area and urrr. I think the library is over there" he points

"You do go to this school, right?" I joked

"Sure do, I just wanted to spend some time with you"

....

After music Ashley insists I sit with her friends Cheryl and Jena. When I sit down they look at me in disgust. "Urm.. Ashley. Who is this?" They ask,pointing their fingers at me. "That's the new girl, Lucy" she smiles. I'm starting to get the feeling I hate these rude ass girls. "And she's sitting with us because?" "Oh shut up Cheryl!" Ashley snapped. "It's fine, Ashley, I think I'm going to sit over there" I say whilst pointing to Ashton's table. She looked me in the eyes with remorse and then weakly smiles, "bye, see you next period"

I walk over to the boys table and awkwardly tap calums shoulder "Hey, do you mind if I sit here?" I ask. "Hey not at all sweetie" and he moves up the table to make room for me. "You decided to move away from the queen bitches?" He asks me whilst chuckling "yeah, I might move back there when one of them gains a brain cell" I can't tell wether my sarcastic comment was too much but all the boys were in fits of laughter, apart from luke who was fiddling with his fingers looking down at his shoes at the end of the table.

The rest of lunch was a laugh and me and Ashton ended up flirting through eye contact, his eyes make me feel like he is trying to figure me out, like he is unscrambling the pieces so he can put them back together again.

School ends and I rush out and head back home straight away. I knock on the door the door and my dad answers with a woman by his side. "Oh, Lucy, This is Shelly. Her son, Luke goes to your school. He's coming over soon" he informs me. Since when did dad hang around with Shelly? "Ah, I know luke" I smile hesitantly whilst giving dad the eyes as if to say 'what the fuck is this?'

I walk up to my bedroom, push my door open to find luke laying on my bed playing around with my fairy lights. "Uhh.. Hey, hello, hi there, urm what are you doing?" I ask. How long has he been up here!? "Oh, hey" he grins. "You comfy?" I say sarcastically. "Indeed I am" he slowly pushes himself of the bed and makes me way towards me. His blue eyes piercing into my soul, powerful enough to make me fall in love with him in an instant. NO! Stop it Lucy! You can't think that of him!

You can't deal with another heartbreak.
