The next day as I sit in my last class I grip my head in my hands not paying any attention to the lesson.

Today the whispers are overbearing and it's not helping that the person they are whispering about is sitting a few feet away from me.

"Die! He's going to die!" they whisper over and over again making me want to rup my hair out.

It started when I pulled up to school and it hasn't stopped since.

"Ember!" someone shouts bringing me to reality.

My head whips up toward the voice and I see Roseland standing infront of me with a worried and concerned filled glance.

Fixing my sunglasses I rise and pack my books up as the voices begin to silence.

"I've been calling you for the last ten minutes." she states following me as I exit the room.

"Whats up?" I ask looking around the deserted hall.

"Class has been over." she informs making me look over to her. "You alright?"

"I'm fine thanks for the concern." I mumble before I go the opposite way to my car.

I get in and quickly make my way to my fathers house.

"Do you want to go out and get dinner?" he asks when I step into the foyer of the large house.

"This whole in the ground has places to get dinner?" I ask him sarcastically.

He smirks with a slight nod of his head. "Ready?"

"Let me change." I mumble and he nods so I go up the stairs to get something comfortable on.

I throw on some dark was jeans and a black shirt before throwing my waist long wave hair into a messie ponitle.

Slipping black flip flops on I make my way back down the stairs. "I wish you'd take those off." he complains when I come into his view.

"What?" I ask coxkong my head in confusion.

"Those sunglasses they hide your whole face."

My sunglasses arw huge and super tinted but thats how they need to be. "I like my sunglasses." I inform following him out to his truck.

"Your a beautiful girl Ember." he informs me seriously making me sigh. "Don't sigh Ember, you know I'm telling the truth."

For some strange reason he likes to see my eyes. Any time we are talking he takes off my sunglasses or asks me to remove them.

I thought it was strange the first few times but after a few days I got used to it.

"Sure." I mumble looking out at the woods as we pass.

"Have you contacted your mother?" he asks changing the subject when he realizes I'm not going to agree.

Snorting I state "She sent me away because she didn't want me."

"Ember." he sighs making me look over to him. "She sent you to me in hopes you'd get better."

"I've herd voices since I can remeber, I'm never going to get better." I inform in disagreement.

He frowns deeply and shoots me a quick glance "Your not crazy Ember."

"How do you know?" I demand sitting up straighter "Huh? How do you know?"

"Trust me Ember I just know." he states in a voice that tells me to let it go.

Sighing deeply I sit back agaisnt the leather "What are we eating?"

"Burgers." he grins amusing me.

He pulls up to a small diner in the middle of the four blocks they call downtown. "Wow!" I gasp with so much fake enthusiasm I have to laugh at myself.

Dad chuckles and follows me inside stating "This is a good place to eat."

"If your fifty." I mumble looking at all of the elder people sittingg around sipping coffee.

"Hey, hey now." he says appalled as we take up a booth by the window.

"Your getting old." I inform him seriously making him frown.

"Tell your old man what you've been up to the last three years." he left three years ago when he caught mom cheeting on him.

I didn't contact jim ag all after he left because I was angry! I thoyght he shoukd have taken me with him but he didn't. He lwdt me with her and never looked back.

Yah he may have called a lot and wrote but I didn't want to hear the excuses I was fine living in anger.

"First you tell me what you have been doing?" I offer not wanting to get back into the subject of me being a freak.

"I've not been doing much really." he informs chewing his cheek as he thinks. "It was a pice of cake to get Sheriff, so mostly iv been doing my job."

Dad has worked on the force since he graduated college back in the ninety's so I'm not surprised he got Sheriff with no trouble.

"Is it bad around here?" I ask curiously and he picks up his menu looking it over to avoid my gaze.

"Not really." he mumbles making me narrow my eyes.

"What's not really entail?"

He looks up at me with a shrug "It's mellow."

.

The obnoxious whispering wakes me from my sleep. I pound 9n the side of my head with my pawms wanting them to just leave me alone.

"Go!" they whipser deeply making my tired body rise and do as inatructed.

I pad down the stairs and out of the front door leaving it wide open.

The voice leade me into the chilled woods and I stumble along thorns and branches sticking into my bare feet and legs.

Finally though I trip over something and it bringa me down to my hands and knees.

Confused and curious I rise to my knees and look behind me, a broad form making itself known in the darkness.

I crawl closer to the form my eyes trying to adjust to the darkness.

When they finally do I fall back and back away from the body hitting something hard.

I jerk my had back and scream at the top of my lungs unsettling all of the little creaturs in the woods.

I don't know how long I scream but I do know the longer I scream the less the voices become.

A large hand is placed onto my shoulder making me jerk forward in shock.

My screaming stops as I stand quickly to my feet. I back away from the thick, broad man my pure white eyes widened in fright.

"I'm not going to hurt you." he tells me deeply, his voice shaking the trees with it's base.

"I told him." I whipser looking down at the familiar chocolate haired boy. "I told him." I whipser again putting my hand over my mouth.

"What?" the man asks confused taking a step toward me. I jump back and he holds his hands back up letting me know he's not a threat. "What did you tell him?"

Looking up into his deep black eyes I state "That he was going to die." before everything goes black.
