Madyline Pov
Tears start to stream down Jem's face and he pulls me to his chest. Soon enough I'm crying into it. I can feel him kiss and mumble into my hair. Finally, we're both calmed enough as any reunited best friends can be. Looking about I find that there are other people in the room. There is shock registered on all their faces. There is a red haired girl most likely a descendant of Charlotte and Henry Fairchild; the blonde that spoke before has some features suggesting that his ancestor was Will Herondale; a black haired girl and boy who look like a mix of the Lightwoods and perhaps Will Herondale as well; the skinny obviously young, male vampire doesn't look related to anyone of my friends or known shadowhunters. There's also a dirty blonde haired man, two light brown hair men, and a dark brown haired man. Then I see Magnus and the only thing different about his appearance are his clothes.
"Magnus, I'm surprised to see that you can stand being in the same room as Woolsey Scott. Last time I knew you two were having a serious lovers' quarrel. Time does heal all wounds I suppose" I laugh.
"Well aren't you talkative, Changeling" Magnus says.
"I told you to stop calling me that. I abhor that nickname and you know it" I scold.
"But you love that nickname, Madyson" the vampire says.
"Young vampire, my name is Madyline not Madyson. Though I've always liked that name, sometimes I wish my parents had named me that instead" I explain to him.
"But that's your name little sis" the dark brown hair man speaks.
"One no it is not and two, I am not your sister. Counter to my appearance I am much much older that you, my dear" I say raising my voice a little.
Soon everyone in the room keeps arguing that my name is Madyson not Madyline. The only two silent figures are Woolsey and Jem. Finally it gets to the point in which I throw up my hands, storming out of the room. I wander around the manor until I find a room with a small hidden door in its north wall. Being curious I silently open it. A staircase is on the other side and I climb it until I come to a beautiful room. Going to the single window I see that I'm in the tower that I saw peeking out behind the manor's main roof. Looking around the room there's a dusty bed, armoire and table. When I lay down on top of the bed dust flies of and settle back down again.
"I really am out of time, aren't I? God, this is so stupid. All those people down there are strangers. I have no clue about what's happened throughout the years I've been gone, wherever that was. My friends have had to deal with hardships that I don't know anything about. The only friends I do know are books but I can't even have a conversation with them" I say to the empty room.
I start to cry again. I can't take it. I never asked for any of this. I wish I could die but that would just cause my friends to grieve all over again. I cry until I fall asleep.
"How's she doing" a man's voice asks.
"All vitals are as to be expected. Nothing has changed" a woman's voice states.
"Tell Klasko to have two guards stationed outside and inside this room twenty-four seven" the man commands. "Keep me posted and if anything changes call me immediately"
"Yes sir" the woman replies.
I wake up from my sleep in a cold sweat. There is light streaming through the lonely window; I must have slept through the evening and night. Yawning I go over to the window. Looking down I see half of the ten people I didn't know. It looks like they're playing soccer. I'm glad that sport didn't go away. I want to tell them good morning but I also don't want them to find my small oasis.
Walking around the room I open the armoire and find two pristine books. I take them before leaving the room. Retracing my steps, I get to the first floor. I smell a slight hint of food and follow it until i reach the kitchen. Seeing Jem at the table, I set the books down and hug him again.
"Where did you go" Jem asks.
"I stayed in the house if that's what you're worried about" I reply.
Jem sighs then whispers "I thought I lost you again."
"Nope."
"I've missed your one word answers."
"So how are the others doing?"
"What do you mean?"
"I want to know what happened to Charlotte, Henry, Will and Jessamine. I'm ninety-nine percent sure they're dead, but I want to know if they were happy in the end. I have to know."
"Most of them were. Charlotte and Henry had a son two years after your disappearance and had a few more children. Henry invented many things for the clave, including a portal that connects all the Institutes in the world. Will married this girl named Tessa Gray. She was a complete enigma that ignited a fiasco in 1878. A man named Mortimer wanted the power she possessed."
"What was the power?"
"Tessa could touch an item, turn into whoever owned it and have all the memories the owner had while retaining her own. Mortimer had figured out how to make these automatons to infiltrate the Institute. When they finally came to our doorstep Jessamine died in the batte. Her last wish was to not get rid of her dolls, if you can believe it."
"This is Jesse you're talking about. Those dolls were her life."
"Will went after Tessa when she got kidnapped. I couldn't go because I was on my deathbed. The Silent Brothers performed this ritual that turned me into one of them. It cut off my parabatai connection to Will. Our friends were able to defeat Mortimer but ultimately Tessa was the one who saved us all.
"I was engaged to Tessa but her heart was split in two. She chose Will over me. I don't blame her though. The two were soulmates throughout the rest of Will's days. Tessa was and still is one of a kind. Will's sister Cecily married Gabriel Lightwood, while Sophie married Gideon Lightwood. Tessa and I agreed to meet once a year on a bridge overlooking the Thames. When Will died she went to like in New York City, stay with Magnus, saying England reminded her of him too much. Even so Tessa never missed our little rendezvous. Now she and I are free to live our lives the way we want" Jem finished.
"So you're the only of my friends alive" I ask sadly.
"Unfortunately, yes that is the case."
"Hang on a moment. You don't look anything like a Silent Brother."
"You missed a war that recently happened...at least I think you missed it; but it cured me and now I can live a mostly normal life."
"How does Tessa feel about you helping the clave?"
"Not exactly happy but she also understands."
"Well good!"
I pick up my books and disappear up to my little room.
