Lost and Confused

Chapter 5

A couple weeks later

Harry Pov

I can barely tell the difference between Madyline and little sis. Madyline's actions, behavior and overall personality are just like hers. Jem is the only one who hasn't confused Madyline for Madyson. To him there's only ever been Madyline in his lifetime. Magnus is torn for not putting two and two together. He's trying to think of something that will make him understand but I don't know.

Today we're having a meeting to put all our cards on the table. Madyline hasn't been privy to any of this but it's time we clued her in.

Madyline Pov

Our gray matter is in a tizzy. We can barely write in this journal. And from looking at this right now it's whirling even more. Our writing style keeps going from cursive to print every two words. Learning that we are mentally of two minds is very interesting and frightening. Granted Madyson seems to be taking this much better than Madyline. We've been gathering everything we know of our lives and compiling them in a notebook. We circle the similarities, putting them in yet another notebook. The two of us want to figure out our predicament as fast as possible.

Also Harry, Clary, Jace, Jem, Alec, Liam, Isabelle, Louis, Magnus, Wooley, and Niall will be showing their findings to us.

I close our journal and slip out of our room. I hear hushed voices in the parlor as I come to the first floor. It goes silent as I enter it.

Like we didn't know they were talking about us. I have to hold back a smile.

"First things first, Madyline we have been researching yourself and Madyson" Liam bluntly states.

"Really" I state faking surprise.

"We needed to understand at least a tiny bit of what's going on with you and my little sister" Harry replies. "And the only logical answer was to dive into the records at the New York and London Institutes."

"Clary and I talked to the Silent Brothers, while Woolsey, Magnus, Simon and Izzy used their networks. Alec looked at the NYC's records, Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall looked at London's" Jace says.

Obsessed much.

"You Madyline were born on February nineteenth eighteen fifty nine and you disappeared on October sixteenth eighteen seventy six" Alec says. "Madyson was born on February nineteenth nineteen ninety nine. She disappeared October sixteenth twenty sixteen. Also your parents' and brothers' names are only one letter different from each other."

We already figured that out Al.

These are all the reports you and Madyson both wrote. Many of them are practically the same. Going through the ones that mention the two of you, we found the same MO. In the last of each of your reports there ar many holes and much vagueness. This suggests you were hiding things about the missions, particularly on the ones in which only you or Madyson went on alone" Alec finishes.

"Changeling when I talked to my cohorts they didn't have a clue about you, even the elders" Magnus says.

"Woolsey, Izzy and I had the same bad luck" Simon sighs.

I look at Izzy and her face tells a different tale. She looks around the room and sighs.

"That's not exactly true."

Still the one for dramatic reveals, I see.

"The Seelie and Unseelie courts' leaders said there were stories about a girl or something who has disappeared many times over, throughout history. In fact that's the only part that all of them agree on, the rest is different for each fairy community in the world" Izzy explains.

Well that helps...not! The story could be about a billion trillion other people!

Would you be quiet Madyson?

Sorry.

"Anything else would you like to share with me" I ask.

"That's all we have" Harry replies.

"Okay. May I have all the reports you copied please? I'd like to look at them myself to see if I can discern anything else from them" I inquire.

Harry hands me a pile of folders and take them to my room.

Do we have to go through all this crap?

The more we know the better, remember?

That doesn't mean I have to like it though.

Neither do I but when life gives you a ton of shit...

You have to make it go away.

 *sigh* You're right.

I honestly never thought I'd have to say that to myself. Madyline and I have combed through all the documents the other shadowhunters found. The more we read these pages over, the more distressed we get. My head feels like it's about to explode. It also feels like I've been in a similar situation in long past dream.
