It was unusual when Pein would send out Konan on a solo mission. It was more unusual when she had returned days later, she had something in her arms wrapped up securely so the fellow members wouldn't see if they tried.
When she revealed to Pein what- or who was in her arms, he was shocked. Sleeping soundlessly was a tattered looking pink haired girl.
"I couldn't leave her."
Those were the only words she spoke as she moved the girl's hair out of her face. As a strong, independent, and feared kunoichi, no one would have thought she would have a soft spot for kids. But she did.
Because of that, the girl was now apart of the Akatsuki.
