"No, Potter."
"Oh come on, Evans, please? Just this once?"
"You heard me, Potter, now go away, I'm busy."
"Not until you promise to-"
"Prongs? I think you should give Lily a break."
James Potter swung round to see his friend Remus Lupin standing behind him, a grin played upon his face.
"What now?" James asked. "I almost had her convinced!"
Lily Evans rolled her jade green eyes and continued her fast scribbling on a piece of parchment.
"Not quite." Marlene McKinnon interrupted from by her side. "You got about as far as a "go away, Potter", but that's it."
James stuck his tongue out at Marlene as Remus half pulled, half dragged James out of the library as Lily gave him a grateful smile.
"Arrogant little toerag." Lily muttered under her breath.
Marlene smirked. "You know he might not bug you anymore if you just said yes." She suggested.
"Never, in a million years, will I go out with James Potter, Marlene! I'd rather go out with a Cornish Pixie!"
"Sure you would." Marlene replied as she got up and pushed her book back into her bag. "Personally I'd rather date James than a Pixie, but,- your choice, Lils!" Marlene picked up her quill and dropped it into her satchel before bending down and whispering; "But I'd much rather date Sirius."
Lily whacked her on the arm as Marlene laughed.
"See you in the common room, Lils!" She sang behind her as she made her way from the library and up to Gryffindor tower.

The Marauders were slouched on the usual armchairs in the Gryffindor common room. There was a slight chatter and laughter and the sound of the small crackling fire at the grate as Sirius pulled out a thick wad of partchment from his pocket and laid on the small table.
"-you should have seen his face, it was priceless!"
At that moment the portrait door swung open to admit Marlene as she stepped up into the common room.
"Hey, Marls, where's Evans?" James called across the room.
"Having a break from you." She replied curtly before climbing the stairs to her dormitory.
Sirius laughed as James puffed out his cheeks in annoyance and ran a hand through his hair.
"Sorry, mate, no more luck with her today I take it?" Sirius asked grinning stupidly.
James scowled and kicked the leg of the armchair, ignoring Sirius' question and grabbed the parchment from the table.
He tapped his wand in the centre and whispered; "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good"
The inky design of the marauders names faded onto the page. James opened the map, running his fingers down the corridors muttering to himself "Snivellus, Snivellus, Snivellus, where are you?"
James' hand hovered over a name that read Lily Evans before continuing down the corridors. Suddenly he stopped. There was another name next to Lily's. Severus Snape.
