Halloween fans should be aware that Michael was under a curse, which is what caused him to kill off his entire bloodline.
In my opinion, I think he's just gotten so used to voices in his head and the act of killing. I think that's why he won't stop killing. It's become something..enjoyable, to an extent. He's gotten into the habit of needing/wanting to kill and can't stop.
