Chapter 6
Zara’s POV
Stupid, stupid, stupid!
I can’t believe that I thought I could go to school and he wouldn’t be there. Most mates look forward to seeing each other again, but not me. Nope, no way!
As I walk into Social Studies, who should be in the seat next to my usual spot? None other than my lovely mate. As soon as I see him, I’m tempted to just walk back out the door, but the teacher saw me during my moment of contemplation, so now I have to suffer through this class with him.
I decide to sit in the back with the druggies and loners instead of my usual spot near the middle with the average but not nerdy students. As soon as I sit down, I hear heavy footsteps heading towards me, and as I look up, my ugly, muddy green eyes meet Aaron’s unique gray eyes the color of the sky on a stormy day, with just as much fluctuation in shade. A smile tugs at the corner of his lips when he meets my gaze. I bet that’s the smile he uses to get into girls pants. Ew.
“Is anyone sitting next to you?” he asks me in a deep baritone.
“No, but if you sit down, no one will be sitting next to you.” I respond with distaste.
“Ouch, babe, that hurts. Right here.” He grabbed his chest, pantomiming a heart attack, I think.
“What are you doing? You look ridiculous, and don’t ever call me babe again, or better yet, don’t even bother to talk to me again.” I threaten with what I hope is a menacing tone. I see a glimmer of pain appear through a crack in his “chill” façade, but it’s gone as soon as I spot it and that ridiculous smirk all cocky guys I've ever met seem to use is plastered onto his face.
“Do you even know who I am?” he asks.
“Yeah, of course. You're a player, and I’m the coach. You didn’t make the team, so go on back to the little leagues.” I mutter, already annoyed with him and we haven’t even been in the same room for five minutes! I think the Moon Goddess made a mistake with us. I mean, everyone makes mistakes, right?
“Ooh! Buuuuurrrn!” one of his friends says from behind him. I sigh. Great, I have an audience, and I’m the center of attention. Exactly what I didn’t want to happen. And it’s all thanks to this asshole of a mate. If he was trying to get me to stay, he actually did the opposite because the more attention I draw to myself, the easier it is for my parents to find me. He’s gonna be the reason I have to move again. I can feel it.
“Actually, I am the most sought after guy in the school, and I also happen to be very interested in you.” He says, brushing off my comment. I scoff.
“I don’t want the left-overs of this school’s group of sluts. If I wanted leftovers, I would go look in the fridge. I don’t need them coming up to me during class, so go away.” I say angrily. I hear some girls screech indignantly, probably some of his sluts, and then one girl decides to approach me to defend her little piece of left-over trash. This is gonna get good.
