P H O E B E was sitting at a table with her friends, when her best friend Summer got up and began walking to an almost empty table. The only person sitting there was August. "Hey, is this seat taken?" Summer asked, which caused him to look up. "Uh, no," he told her. Summer put her lunch tray on the table, and plopped her backpack on the floor. As she began to eat, Phoebe stood up going over to sit next to Summer. "Hey," Phoebe said sitting down. "Hey."
"Ugh," Summer said as she took a bite of her macoroni and cheese. "I should have brought a sandwich like you did." She complained to August. August nodded a 'yeah'
"My name is Summer by the way. What's yours?" "August." "I'm Phoebe, but I guess you both already knew that."
"Summer! Phoebe!" Another girl, carrying a tray cane over to the table. "Why are you sitting here? Come back to the table."
"It was too crowded," Phoebe started, "Come sit here. There's more room" Summer finished. The girl scoffed, and called out "Never mind," as she walked away. Phoebe and Summer shrugged-smiled at August.
"Hey, your names kind of match," Phoebe said as she chewed. "Summer? August?" she said, smiling, her eyes open wide, as she waited for August to get it.
"Oh, yeah," He said after a second.
"We can make this the 'summer only' lunch table," Summer said.
"Only kids with summer names can sit here. Except Phoebe, she's an exception. Let's see, is there anyone here named June or July?"
"There's a Maya," August said. Technically, May is spring," Summer answered, "but if she wanted to sit here, we could make an exception." She said it as if she'd actually thought the whole thing through. "There's Julian. That's like the name Julia, which comes from July."
August didn't say anything.
"There's a kid named Reid in my English class," August said after a moment.
"Yeah, I know Reid, but how is Reid a summer name?" Phoebe asked.
"I don't know." August shrugged. "I just picture, like, a reed of grass being a summer thing."
"Yeah, okay." She nodded, pulling out her notebook.
"And Ms. Petosa could sit here, too. That kind of sounds like the word 'petal,' which I think of as a summer thing, too."
"I have her for homeroom," August and Phoebe said at the same time.
"I have her for math," Summer answered, making a face. She started writing the list of names on the second-to-last page of her notebook. "So, who else?" she asked.
By the end of lunch, the three had come up with a whole list of names of kids and teachers who could sit at the "Summer Table" if they wanted. Most of the names weren't actually summer names, but they were names that had some kind of connection to summer. August even found a way of making Jack Will's name work by pointing out that you could turn his name into a sentence about summer, like "Jack will go to the beach," which Summer and Phoebe agreed worked fine.
"But if someone doesn't have a summer name and wants to sit with us," Summer said very seriously, "we'll still let them if they're nice, okay?"
"Okay." August nodded.
"Even if it's a winter name." "Cool beans," she answered, giving me a thumbs- up.
Summer looked like her name. She had a tan, and her eyes were green like a leaf.____________
P H O E B E sat in her bedroom, watching a random show on Netflix. Her mother, Penelope walked in and sat next to her. "Whatcha watching, sweets?" She asked curiously. "Where's dad?" Phoebe asked. Penelope hesitated before sighing, "Dad, had to take a break from us for a while, he'll be back soon." Phoebe cuddled into Penelope side. "Why did he leave?" Phoebe asked quietly. "It's not because of you I promise, I'm going to finish making dinner, then we can watch a movie, okay?" "Okay."
As Penelope walked out she thought of what happened....
____________
"She is just too different. She's an embarrassment to our name!" Phillip yelled.
"You can not say that about our daughter, just because she is a little different doesn't mean she is embarrassing." Penelope yelled back. "What are you gonna do? You gonna leave us? Your going to leave your 10 year old daughter?"
Phillip laughed dryly before walking out the front door.____________
Penelope shook the guilty yet sad feeling off as she made spaghetti. "Phoebes! Dinner!" She yelled. Phoebecame down the stairs, they chatted and laughed, like they were okay, but secretly they both hurt so much, and all they wanted to do was cry. But after dinner they watched "Marley and Me." That night Phoebe slept surprisingly, well. She was happy, not that her father left, but that she had a fresh start. And one thing is for sure, she wasn't going to waste it.

This part is a little more sad than the last one, I wanted to have some drama, that Phoebe had to go through. I wanted her to have a struggle that she would overcome and use it to make her a better person, I hoped you liked it. It is also a little shorter (more like 200 words shorter) but I literally just made this and it wasn't edited, so no promises on how good it'll be.~Peace~
