Luis's POV
I grinned at her as we walked back. We were walking in silence again, but this time it wasn't awkward and I really didn't mind. I had to give her time to think.
"Why do you have two names?" She suddenly blurted out. I looked at her and she blushed and hid her face, embarrassed. She looked cute when she blushed.
"Well, when we first arrived here, we were given new names, so that the enemy couldn't try and find us by name. It was just another layer of protection. When I returned, they told me when I came to get you, I needed to use my real name, so you wouldn't be suspicious because I was your best friend, and you might know who I am, sooner than you needed to. Does that make sense?"
"Yes" She looked thoughtful for a moment, but then gasped and said "My real name's Ariana, isn't it?" I was surprised she knew.
"How did you know that?" "When you were telling me my life story, I recognised it. A women, whom I guessed was my mother, was bundling me up in a coat, and telling me what you told me. She then kissed my cheek and told me that everything would be fine. I think a war was going on behind. She said "I love you Ariana", then a man picked me up and ran with me. I couldn't see any faces though, only the scenery and buildings."
Oh thank god! I thought I would have to explain a hell of a lot more, but that's one extra thing down.
"That's good, that you remember it, your becoming more yourself" "That's a good thing right?" "Of course it is" I answered, while lacing her hands with mine.
She looked down and I suddenly felt embarrassed. I hadn't even realised what I was doing, it just felt natural. She looked up at my face and smiled. A moment later she squeezed my hand but kept it where it was.
Yes! I would never tell her, of course, but she has always been my best friend and my secret crush. But she is betrothed to someone back home.
I have no hope, but I can't tell her that she is someone else's. She would freak and probably wouldn't come back home with me.
We finally arrived back at her house and I had to let go of her hand. She clung on for a few more seconds, before finally realising me, and stepping towards her door.
"Goodbye Lacey" I said, smiling. "See you on Monday, Alfie" Her smile was gorgeous.
I closed the distance between us and hugged her. She smelled of pine and rosemary. She smelled beautiful.
She pulled back, kissed me on the cheek and ran inside. "Bye" I smiled and watched her go. She kissed me! It may have just been on the cheek, but it still made me feel incredibly happy. Things were looking up for me. If only she wasn't betrothed...
