Long ago, Elysium was just a dream. An empty shell of a city once great, living in the shadows of a much larger, more dangerous world. Then one day, a ship learned of the existence of a magical stone that could grant the kingdom protection from the forces of darkness.
The Captain set sail with his crew in order to find the said stone. They journeyed a great distance, fought many danger's from the treacherous sea monsters, the tricky mermaids, the nymphs of the island rose. The crew face the giants of the Icy Sea, the tribes of many islands and the cyclops of stoneless island.
When they finally made it to Alaria, the captain set foot on the island alone. Armed with only a cutlass and his wits, he entered the caves. The insides of the caves were said to be lined with jewels of all colors and sizes, but the captain only cared to obtain the one jewel.
When he finally reached his final destination, he was stopped by a beautiful goddess. She would give him three riddles to answer, and he would have to answer each correctly or else she would take something from him. So she riddled, and he answered correctly each time.
When the jewel was finally given to him, the goddess, impressed by his wits offered him a deal. She would take something of his, not his life nor his soul, if he lost. If he won, she would grant him the knowledge of the stone and how to use it's full power to attack, rather than to just defend.
The captain accepted, but was stunned by the question before him. She simply had uttered the words.
âWhat do I want from you?â After an hour of pondering, the captain finally answered.
âI do not know.â He said. She smiled, moving close to him and stealing a kiss.
âI will take your love.â The goddess took the man for the night, and in the morning when he left she spoke a soft warning to him.
âYou have the jewel, but other forces of this island will try and take it back. It will draw the attention of countless others who seek it's powers. Defend it with your life.â
So, the captain left and returned to his kingdom, were he was crowned king. He rose the kingdom from it's ashes, building a magnificent castle and beautiful cities. He married, had children, grew old. But he never forgot the goddess. Not once.
The jewel however, still sits in the tallest tower of the castle. Protected by the elite guards of Elysium, but the eyes of darkness never waver, and wait anxiously for their chance.
The younger mother closed the book, smiling gently and placing her hand on her daughters head and stroking her hair gently. She kissed her on the head softly.
âTime to go to sleep my angel.â
âMommy, is the captain my great grandpa?â
âNo sweety. He was only king for a few years, then he disappeared and left the protection of the kingdom to your great great great great great grandpa.â
âWoooow. Do you think the goddess is still alive?â
âShe could be.. But it's just a story dear. Now get some sleep.â tucked her in, smiling and turning down the glow stone lights.
âSomeday, I am going to find the same island and see!â
âSure you don't want to just defend the crystal?â
âI'll do that too!â
âAlright honey.â She smiled. âGoodnight Liana.â
âNight mommy!â The small child closed her eyes, and drifted into a deep sleep.
