our first summer

Hawaii

Liza's been working nonstop for the past week. The restaurant recently started to get more notice from people who don't even live near town so that was a good thing for Michelle, her husband and the business.

"So I see you've met my son" Michelle says teasingly to Liza who's break just started. The confused girl looks over her shoulder to the table David and his friends were sitting at. Michelle must have seen her coming back from their table a minute ago.

"Which one of them is your son?" Liza questions, feeling rather intrigued. None of the boys resemble Michelle in the slightest so it's a surprise to find out one of them is her child.

"David"

Liza's grape falls out of her now widened mouth. Michelle is David's mother? David is Michelle's son? Liza has feelings for Michelle's son? Liza works for David's mother? What?

"You seriously never caught on before?" Michelle stiffs a laugh as she polishes glasses. "I thought you were smart Liza" she laughs again.

Liza dismisses the unproblematic issue for now as she continues to read her magazine and write notes into her journal. A pair of cold hands find their way to her bare waist and she shivers as they do.

"Sorry, didn't know my hands were that cold" David chuckles as he takes the seat beside her, reaching into her bowl of grapes and taking a few.

"It's fine, grape thief" she smirks, chomping on her small green fruits. David starts drumming his finger tips on the counter, suggesting he's nervous or anxious about something.

"What's on your mind?" Liza asks him, flipping through her magazine pages for the third time today. She loves re-reading gossip.

"The boys and I had this whole summer planned out before we met you guys but we want to still do all of those things because it's my last summer-"

Liza's eyebrows furrow together, what's he talking about. "Your last summer?" she cuts him off, curious as to what he meant.

David's eyes widen a little as he realises what he said. "I just mean before we go off to college next year" he utters, hoping she won't question it.

"Ohhh Okay. So, what do you have in mind?" she asks him as she sips on her ice tea. David decides it's now or never.

"Hawaii"

Liza accidentally spits her tea everywhere as she struggles to breathe, choking on the beverage that didn't go down the right way. David panics and starts patting her back while trying to clean up the mess before everything becomes sticky.

"Hawaii?" She repeats. she must have heard him wrong. surely he isn't going to Hawaii and surely he doesn't want her to come with him.

"Yeah. You don't have to come if you don't want to. Kristen, Corinna and Gabbie are though. It's an adventure trip. Were going to do activities everyday like skydiving, shark swimming and bungee jumping" he explains to her. David understands that it's a little soon to be going on holidays together but he wants it to be perfect when he tells her he has feeling for her.

"But my parents"

"Have already agreed. I spoke to them earlier today"

Liza's eyes widen. He's met her parents. And she wasn't even there to save him.

"What about work?"

"My moms the owner, I'm sure I can sweet talk her" He laughs. Liza's face turns into an embarrassed expression when she remembers that she's been falling for her bosses son this entire time and she had no idea they were related.

"Okay fine. Let's go to Hawaii" she squeals. finally some excitement in her life. No more moping or feeling sorry for herself. She needs this trip and she needs to go with David. she needs to tell him about how she feels.

Liza rushes home after Michelle gives her the night and two weeks off curtesy of her son David. His cousin Richard is going to be working her shifts until she gets back.

David had to leave, something about buying something with Scott and Zane. Todd and Corinna are probably still together, they've become attached by the lips since the night they met. Liza called Gabbie and Kristen, they're both going to pick her up then go to her house so she can't pack considering their flight leaves in 5 hours.

Liza knows this is insane and totally normal to do. But it's summer and as long as she's with her friends, she'll be fine.

"Get in loser we're going to Hawaii" Kristen yells as Gabbie parks outside of the restaurant badly. Liza gets in the car and the trio speed away from the beach.

When they arrive at the Koshy residence, Gabbie and Kristen wait for Liza downstairs in her living room, sharing a bowl of popcorn and a can of rest beer each while Liza races up stairs to find her suitcase and start packing.

She finds the rose gold, hard shell suitcase on top of a shelf in her closet. It's heavier than it looks and considering Liza's the size of a small child, she struggles to carry it until eventually it falls onto the ground. Not wasting any time, she picks out a few floral rompers, summer dresses, a party dress, shorts, swimsuits, t- shirts and underwear. She nearly folds the clothing items and puts them into the suitcase.

As for toiletries, Liza grabs her ted baker cosmetics bag and fills it with skin care products such as moisturiser, face masks, lotion and a few other things like hair ties, sunscreen, toothbrush and mouthwash. Then she picks out which make up products she taking and puts them into her make up bag. The one thing Liza is beyond stuck on is which shoes she's going to take. Obviously her white converse have to go. So she decided to pack them, her black vans, sliders, sandals and a pair of high heels just in case.

When everything else is packed, liza adds in her hair dryer, straighteners and curling iron. We debated on which things she wants to take on the plane with her. Finally deciding on her laptop, her journal and her favourite book, she adds them to her black leather backpack along with some gum, candy, water, earphones and her chargers.

Before leaving, Liza picks up jet old camera from her desk and looks at it. Maybe she should take it to film some things. After all, she'll want to remember this trip forever....
