You did not make the right decision.

This wretched cat had been driving you totally mad, and you've only had him for- You glance briefly at the hanging wall clock, and a frustrated puff of air seeps past your clenched teeth as the needle tick-tocks softly.

Approximately one hour and forty-five minutes.

Kitty, as you've come to affectionately call him, has been a resident of your home for almost two hours and he's already done...

Absolutely nothing.

After you had graciously cracked open a can of tuna and presented it to the tiny beast as a peace offering, he had taken a few bites, blinked his charming little eyes at you in what you assumed was gratitude, then turned tail and sat himself down on the window sill. After that, nothing.

In fact, he is still there, and hasn't budged at all. At first you had just assumed he was keeping his distance to get a feel of the place or whatever it is cats do, and that eventually he would direct his attention to something more interesting like the bustling street and passing cars below. Or even get up and start exploring the apartment, or something.

But... he just keeps staring at you. And it's starting to freak you out.

Quietly setting down the book you had been reading after finishing lunch, you turn and direct your full attention to the cat. Upon locking eyes, he flicks his tail.

You sigh deeply, and shift to rest your elbows on the arm of the sofa. With your eyes on the cat just a few feet away, you silently observe, head-to-head in an intense staring contest. The cat wins.

"You sure are strange," you murmur, and he tips his head to the side, the first time he had moved in over an hour. "I got you to be... well, to be a cat. Y'know, purr, keep me company, destroy me belongings, cat stuff." You raise a questioning eyebrow and the cat seems to do the same.

"I get that you were a stray up until today, but, seriously? Act like a normal cat."

At the last sentence, something in the eyes of the definitely less-than-normal cat glimmers, but you hardly notice, and can't help but to laugh at yourself.

"Look at me, so lonely that I went out and adopted a cat and now I'm talking to it. I must be crazy." You chuckle under your breath and shake your head, and the cat smirks.

He smirks. Up until this point you didn't even think it was possible for a cat to...

And then, he speaks.

"Should I be offended?"

You definitely did not think that was possible.
