“So, when will our neighbors come over for dinner?” I say, trying to get a conversation going.
“I thought they could come over on Saturday” my mum replies.
“Oh, okay. That’s in-“I interrupt myself when I realize that it’s Thursday today, I thought I would get at least I bit more time before I had to meet the boy with the hazel eyes, but obviously not.
“That’s in two days. Great” I continue and fake a smile.
“I’m glad you are looking forward to it” she says.
I put my head in my hand, when my mum and Alan start talking, and pick in my food with the fork. I wonder what he’s like, the boy with the hazel eyes. Probably wonderful, sweet, nice and everything you can wish for. Maybe that’s the opposite, but his eyes are too kind so that can’t be possible. But hey, I have misjudged people before. As I think that a picture of Jamie pops up in my head. Yeah, that relationship turned out so good, I think sarcastically. I shook my head; I don’t want to think about him because nothing good comes with it. I sigh and move a bit food to my mouth.
I didn’t look forward to this day, but now I’m standing here in front of the mirror doing the finishing touches before I’m going downstairs. I’m wearing a dress that has a white lace top and a sky blue skirt with a few big floral prints. On my left wrist hangs a metal bracelet in a golden color and my dark, brown hair is wavy. Maybe the boy with the hazel eyes won’t recognize me.
“Olivia, they will be here any minute now. Are you done?” My mum shouts from downstairs.
“Yes, I’m done” I reply and walk out from my room.
The same second I put down my feet on the floor beneath the stairs, there’s a knock on the door. My mum walks over to the door and opens it with a big smile on her face. I lean against the end of the stair rail and look down on my feet.
“This is my daughter Olivia” I hear my mum says and steps getting closer.
I look up and see one woman, one man and him. At least, I would get to know his name, so I don’t need to call him “him” or “the boy with the hazel eyes”. I like the second one, though, it sounds beautiful in some way.
“Hi, Nice to meet you Olivia” the woman says and shake my hand, and so does the man.
Then he stands in front of me and reach for my hand.
“Aleks” he says and flashes off a sweet smile.
“Olivia” I reply and smile shyly.
“Have me met before?” he asks.
“Uhm... eh… That depends what you mean with ‘met’” I say nervously, but laugh.
Aleks and I haven’t moved even though our parents have moved on to another room. He stares into my eyes without moving an inch.
“Oww, now I remember why I recognized you” he says and smiles big.
Please, not the window! Please, not the window! I think.
“I saw you on the street, uhm… 2 days ago, I think” he says.
“Yeah, you were with some friends” I say and relax since he didn’t mention the window.
“Oh and I also saw you in your window later that day” he laughs when he sees my facial expressions. “Did you drop something?”
“Uhm…” I don’t know how to reply to that. Then Aleks starts laughing again.
“Relax. It was just a bit funny, one second you were there and the next you were gone”
I can’t help laughing while I shook my head.
“Well, I kinda hoped that you didn’t see me” I say and smile.
