I’ve been living in care for twelve years now and I’ve got used to it. It’s my home. Where I lay my head at night. Where I eat the food prepared for me.
My name is Hazel, by the way, and I’m fifteen years old.
I woke at 06:30, like every other morning, rolled out of bed and onto the floor. I got up off the floor and stood in the middle of my empty room. I walked over to my tall, golden brown, wooden wardrobe and all I saw was black clothing, that’s all I seem to be wearing at the moment, black. I used to be the girl that could get very annoying because I was always in your face wearing bright colours but now I’m the girl who sits at the back of the class, saying nothing and getting on my work. I pull out my ‘Black Veil Brides’ t-shirt, they’re my favourite band, for some reason I can relate you their songs so well. With that, I pull out my black, pleated, short skirt, my knee high black socks with a little bow in the middle at the top, black Doc Martin boots and a black button up cardigan. I head out of my room and into the bathroom, holding my make-up, hair brush, bobby pins and hair spray in my hands. I walk over to the mirror; place all my stuff on the self just below, look in the mirror and feel disgusted. My face is a ghostly pale white covered in huge red spots. My eyes are a light hazel, to match my name; I guess that’s why my parents called me Hazel. I guess I have quite a small face, which some people consider ‘cute’ but I hate it. It’s so ugly. My lips are a light pink with my white-ish teeth covered by braces. I don’t mind my braces, I’ve had them for two years now and I get them off in two months. Yay! My hair is a mousey brown colour which I absolutely love! I love my hair; it’s the favourite part of me. But in the morning… It looks like a birds nest gone wrong! I brush it through and pin my fringe back out of my face with bobby pins and start my make-up.
