“I want to give him mine.” The lady looks confused. “I’d rather have him live than me have to live without him… He’ll be fine without me.”
“I’m sure he loves you dearly.” She says in her kind voice. “I’m sure he’d miss you.” I tell her that he’ll find someone new and forget about me. I just wanted Jacob to be okay again. She gets straight on the phone and the doctors come back with another be like Jacob’s.
“Are you sure?” One of the doctors asks. They make me feel uncomfortable and small. The doctors are big men in white jackets with lots of pockets. I nod.
“First I want to tell him how much I love him. Does anyone have paper?” I look around and see there’s some and a pen on the table next to Jacob. I write: ‘Jacob Bear, I love you so much. The doctors said you needed a new heart so I gave you mine. I know you have bought me all these things and I’ve been looking for the perfect thing to get you and until today I had no idea but now I know. I love you and I’ll always be your princess. I’ll be watching over you. I love you so much and more. I love you more than you can imagine! Love your Hazel Bear’
I cry as I write this. I kiss it, place it back on the little table next to Jacob’s bed and lay down on mine. They take us both into a big dark room and attach me to the same machine that Jacob is attached to. They give me a pill and I fall asleep. I can feel them open me up but it doesn’t hurt. I feel them unattach my heart then it goes fully black and I can’t feel or hear anything anymore.
Jacob wakes up; I assume the surgery was successful. He reads the note and cries. I know he’s crying. “I love her so much.” He says and he kisses my lifeless body.
