Uma's POV
Today Uma woke up in a spectacular mood because today wasn't any ordinary day...It was Harry's birthday! While it sucked that he was currently out running errands for work Uma was relieved because it gave her a chance to get everything ready. You see, she had a little something planned for Harry's birthday and he didn't know it. Recently Tiana had opened another restaurant and had asked Uma to run it for her, she happily obliged. Not only was managing a restaurant pretty high up there on her goals (ultimately she wanted to own her own) but the pay was better which really helped. She had originally told Harry that the two of them were going to enjoy a quiet dinner at the new restaurant, a surprise party was the last thing he was going to expect. If she planned on getting everything tied together before he got home she needed to get on the move. Washing the dishes and cleaning up the kitchen before she left Uma was about to grab her car keys off of the counter when her phone dinged signaling that she had a new text. It was from CJ "Party on for tonight?" She'd asked to which she replied "Yes, Harry doesn't know" before grabbing her car keys and looking for her purse.
After she found that she grabbed her phone off of the counter and left out the door. As she left Uma checked the mail before getting in her car driving away. She was supposed to be meeting Mal at the ports as part of Harry's present. This was going to be a birthday he was going to remember, she was going to make sure of it.
Harry's POV
He had told Uma that he had to run errands for work but really he had his own surprise for her. They were in a much better place than they were months ago and Harry knew now more than ever that Uma was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. It had caused problems for them in the past but he wanted to ask for her hand in marriage again. This time it would be just the two of them so she won't be put on the spot, and if she said no he was okay with it. He had learned that just being her boyfriend was better than not being with her at all. He could absolutely respect it if she said marriage still wasn't what she wanted. There was such a negative energy around the ring he had initially proposed with that Harry sold it and picked out a gold band with dark teal quartz stones. The teal was her signature color and nothing but gold was better suited for his queen. After he left home he's picked it up and confirmed it was what he'd wanted he met up with his sisters for lunch, not mentioning his plans (he didn't feel they could keep a secret) and then ran to actually take care of a few things for work before heading home and get a quick rest before his evening with Uma. He quickly fell into an hour long sleep and woke to the sound of the shower running in the master bathroom.
He hadn't heard Uma come home but he knew she was getting ready to go out and celebrate his birthday, with what he thought would be just the two of them. Giving her her space to get ready Harry grabbed a white button down shirt and some black pants before heading to the spare bathroom to get his shower and dressed. It took him all of fifteen minutes, including his hair which he just let do what it wanted for old time sake. When he walked back to their bedroom to get his boots Uma was sitting on the bed putting on her own shoes, a pair of teal pumps that stood out against the simple fitted black dress she had chosen to wear. Her teal hair fell in waves at her shoulders and she stuck with a natural "barely there" make up look. Once the two were both ready they got in Harry's truck and headed to the restaurant.
Uma's POV
Finally it was time! As soon as they were in view of the new restaurant Uma stopped Harry before he got a chance to get out of the truck "I'm going to need you to stay here." She said hurriedly, hoping he wouldn't ask questions. Her hope was in vain because he asked "Why?" His confusion written on his face. Great, now she had to come up with a lie to her lie, and she had to do it fast "Because," she stammered "I...have to turn the alarm system off and Tiana doesn't want anyone else to know it." She told him. For a moment there Harry looked like he wasn't buying it but he seemed to do as she asked because he said "okay, I'll stay here." Uma smiles and kissed him on his cheek before opening the car door "I'll be right back." She said getting out of the truck and shutting the door.Going the fastest she could in her heels Uma rushed into the semi dark restaurant. Inside she saw Harriet coming out of the kitchen "Where's my brother?" The eldest Hook sibling asked "In the car, he thinks I'm turning the alarm system off." Uma answered "Why the hell does he think that?" Harriet snickered, Uma smirked "That's what I told him, he still has no idea this is a party for him. I want to make sure everyone is in their places." She informed her. After Harriet reassured her everything was going according to plan Uma went back out to the truck where Harry was sitting peacefully on his phone. Knocking on the driver side window Uma motioned to him that it was time to go in.
On command Harry got out of the truck and the two
Walked hand in hand to the restaurant doors. Before they opened the door to go in Uma turned to Harry "close your eyes," she instructed and be shot her a questioning glance "Why?" He asked. Smiling Uma repeated "close your eyes." This time he did as she asked. Grabbing his hand Uma lead him inside. The moment the pair of them stepped inside a chorus of "SURPRISE!" Surrounded then as Harriet flicked the light on to reveal the red and black decorations, including a banner that read 'Happy Birthday Harry'. Uma looked up to catch Harry's reaction and saw him grinning ear to ear as he took in his surroundings. For Uma the MONTHS of planning was so worth it.Harry's POV
Surprised was an understatement for what Harry was feeling at the moment. A party with all of his family and closest friends was the last thing he's expecting but as he looked at all the people who showed up to celebrate his last year as a teenager he couldn't help but smile down at the teal haired goddess peering up at him. She must have put a lot of time into planning this and keeping it all a secret from him. As the party got started Harry found that he got somehow got separated from Uma, which probably happened while he was talking with Prince Eric and Ariel. He knew Uma had chosen to let any bad blood stay between them and her mother but she still wasn't entirely comfortable around the royal couple.Once the admiral and his wife went to speak with someone else he took the opportunity to sweep Uma away from her conversation with Audrey who was telling her all about her honeymoon with Chad Charming. He pulled her outside to the deck overlooking the ocean on the back of the restaurant. The party may have caught him off guard but he still had something he wanted to do privately. Now that it was just them Harry was internally fumbling over how he was going to ask her "Are you enjoying your party?" She asked, a gentle hand on his shoulder. "I am," he said with a smile "but I was going to take advantage of it being just us to ask you something." He told her truthfully, finally gaining some courage.
Confused Uma said on the nearby bench, waiting patiently to find out what was on his mind. It was now or never. Sitting beside her Harry took one of her hands in his, running a finger over the ring he'd given her at Christmas "We've been to hell and back together right?" He asked "right..." Uma said, trailing off "Despite everything we've been through we're still here, still TOGETHER" he said, it was becoming rambling at this point, something Uma pointed out and it helped get him back in track. "What I mean to say is we overcame it with each other, and I want to be saying that twenty years from now." He told her getting down on his knee, with a gasp Uma covered her mouth with one hand "I know last time you said you weren't ready to get married and I'm taking a huge risk asking you again but, I'm so in love with you that I don't care. I won't be upset if you say no but I need to ask..." he took a deep breath before continuing "Uma, will you marry me?" He asked, now feeling more nervous than ever before.
Patiently Harry waited for Uma to answer and for a moment there he thought he was going to say no. He was waiting for that blow when she finally answered "yes." At first Harry thought it was a no "okay, I completely understand that you're not ready, I just though..." but Uma laughed "Harry, I said yes." She giggled "yes?" His voice barely above a whisper, Uma stood up and wrapped her arms around him, her forehead on his "I'm ready to be your wife." She told him, in that moment Harry was the happiest he has ever felt. Best birthday ever.
A/n: sorry it took so long to get this out but life is in the way...but it finally happened, she said yes!
