Odd Friends From Odd Places

*~Chapter 2~*

(Asuna's POV)

As we all ran inside, the bell rang for passing period to 1st hour. Dan was waiting for us inside, I smiled at him and waved, he waved back. Jacob continued to run to his first hour as did Holly, but Dan is a lot more chill then them and just walked with me to our first hour. While we walked he looked toward me, it looked like he was about to say something yet he decided against it. I was now a bit curious as to what he was about to say but before I could ask anything we were already in our class. We took our seats and I finally decided to start the conversation.

"So Dan, the weather is nice out today isn't it?" I asked him and he started laughing hysterically. It was almost like I was his favorite comedian and I just said a joke. I was confused, "Why are you laughing? I just wanted to start a conversation and to be frank, you aren't exactly helping either." I said, defending myself for no reason what so ever.

"Sorry Asuna, but the weather? Seriously? Any other topic would've been fine. The weather is something to talk about when you both realize this relationship isn't working out, honey." He said and just continued to laugh. I began to chuckle as the bell rang again. Our laughter began to die down as the teacher walked in.

"Hello class. I'm Mrs. Johnson, your teacher for today and tomorrow and the rest of the year." Mrs. Johnson said, writing her name on the board as she turned around towards the class. "I heard we are getting a new student tomorrow. We will go over the procedures necessary to make this student feel welcome at Lakewood high!" She said, smiling widely. I notice she was quite perky in the tone of her voice and just smiled along with the rest of the class to try and show the same amount of enthusiasm as she shows.

"Perky teacher, we don't see that often. Something must've happened to her when she was a little child." Dan whispered, honestly intrigued in this teacher's past. I slapped his wrist and gave him a stare. He always tries to find out why people are who they are by researching everything about them. Sometimes he finds secrets and blackmails people. "What?" He whispered, rubbing his wrist.

"You aren't going to dig into a past of some teacher Dan!" I whispered harshly, scolding him. He just chuckled a bit and rolled his eyes and continued to listen to the teacher and pay attention. I, however, could not focus because I know Kat is moving. If Kat came here I would just die of happiness. I never met her before and she refuses to tell me her real name. I always wondered why, but it's not my place. Mrs. Johnson went over the procedures for proper etiquette and how to address people from a different country or state or just people in general. I wondered if they did this for when I came to America.

The teacher told us to get a partner and pick something to show the new student that they are welcome here. Dan and I decided to be partners and we chose to do the decorations, I had a ton of ideas on what to do and since Dan is actually an amazing artist, I know we can pull this off. She then gave us the rest of class to out together ideas and work on the designs. Dan and I moved to a station and started discussing ideas for the decorations.

"I think we should do a banner saying 'Welcome to Lakewood!' and maybe some streamers and balloons!" I began before Dan stopped me smiling, I frowned. "What? I have a lot more ideas and we have such little time!" I said, pouting.

"Relax, we need to do something a lot simpler, we don't have the space for everything Asuna. I like the banner idea though. Also, some balloons won't hurt." He said smiling at me. I nodded and grabbed a piece of paper to start writing down everything we need. "We'll need some plain white banners, I'll create the design for it. We also need some colorful balloons." he continued looking at me as I write it down.

At the end we had a list full of balloons, paint, streamers, and a plain white banner. At the end of class, we went to to our 2nd hour, it was pretty normal just like the rest of the hours in the day. At lunch I had a PB & J sandwich while my friends packed their lunches. Soon, the school day ended and I walked home with my best friends and my siblings. Akio was skipping all the way home as my Ichiro was too tired to try and calm him down. Akio was always the most energized out of all my family. We always wonder why though, too much sugar?

"This is the best day ever!" Akio shouted at the top of his lungs smiling like he won the lottery. Ichiro sighed and covered his ears, he's always been the quietest one in our family. He absolutely hates yelling, something I always wondered about. We first walked to Jacob's house, Holly hid behind a bush which made me chuckle a bit. We waved goodbye as Jacob went inside his home. As he waved I could've swore there was a bruise on his wrist, that could just be my imagination though.

Next house we went to was Holly's, she was carrying a lot of stuff so Dan helped her carry her things inside. As she went inside I shouted goodbye and when Dan came out we walked to my house. Ichiro and Akio went inside almost  immediately, Dan and I took out time though. We both dropped of our things and went to the closest store. Dan took the top half of the list while I took the bottom half. I went to go and get the banner first, it was pretty difficult, there aren't many banners that were plain white, but I eventually found one. Next were the streamers, there was a ton of streamers. I chose the rainbow colored ones and called it good.

I met Dan at the checkout line, he had the paint and balloons while I had the streamers and the banner. We payed for the items and went back to my  house to start working. I helped with the calligraphy of the lettering, the balloons and streamers. Dan did the background on the banner and the designs on the balloons. As we finished, we smiled upon our work. We both decided to take it to the school early and hang them up so we can relax. As we hung them up we had a bit of an argument on where the banner should go.

"It should go above the door! That way the student will see it when they walk in." Dan argued and I just shook my head disapprovingly.

"They won't be able to see it if it's above them! Unless of course they look straight up in the flipping sky!" I say and point over to a corner and get up on a step-stool that I set on a desk and hung the banner up with my arms and I point that he should stand by the door. "See?" I ask, looking at him. "Wouldn't this be better?" I finish, I see him nod as he walks back over to me. "Now hand me the nails! I'll hang it up." I say, he hands me the nails and I start to put them in so the banner is hung up.

As I put the last nail in I smile at my work, then I started to lose my balance, I didn't realize how high the ceiling is from the floor. I should've used a ladder instead of this step-stool on a desk. I tried to regain my balance but, I ended up falling. I thought I was about to hit the floor but then I didn't. I was fine, I opened up my eyes and I was in Dan's arms. He caught me just before I hit the floor.

He just smiled at me and set me back down on the floor. I blushed a bit and smiled at him, we both checked the time and decided we should go home. We stayed in silence as we walked back to my house. We both walked inside, he wanted to stay the night at my house since his parents always lock the door after nine and he forgot his keys. I went up to my room to change into my PJ's and I checked my phone, nothing from Kat, she still must be on the plane. He came up and took of his shirt, I blushed red. He got in my bed and saved a spot for me.

I got in the bed and I felt his arms wrap around me and I can't help but smile. His warmth is amazing, I covered us up in my blankets. I heard a soft sound of snoring behind me, he's asleep. I smile and start to close my eyes to sleep. Soon, I was blacked out and in my dream world. All I could dream about was meeting Kat one day. I couldn't wait to see the new student tomorrow, I can't wait to see if this student is Kat.
