Kierra's POV

"Cousin! Aye, Kierra!"

I turned toward the voice I had almost forgotten. I quickly squeezed my way through all the tables in the lunch room to get to her. By the time I got there Ariana was standing up waiting to jump into my arms. We embraced each other like it was the first time. I hadn't seen her beautiful smile in so long I almost wanted to cry.

Ariana and I were salt and pepper. Peanut butter and jelly. Penny and Dijonnay. We we're complete opposites which made us inseparable when we got together. She was more like my sister than anything.

Her skin was golden brown which was complimented beautifully by her long jet black hair. She was tall, around 5'7. Like me, she was well endowed, blessed with big breasts. However, she wasn't so lucky in the back area. None the less, my cousin was gorgeous and we made each other look even better.

I squeezed her tighter just for good measure.

"Giiiirrrrl!! I missed your cute self soooo much!" I said dragging out my words.

Ariana chuckled, "You already know I missed you too boo! I'm so happy we get to spend time together now. We gots to turn up this year!"

I laughed loudly at her hyped self. i looked around and of course all eyes were on us. This made me uncomfortable so I nervously sat down.

"Dang Boot," (That's her nickname) "Are we cute or what? All eyes are over here!"

"And you know it! Plus you're new so these nosy mofo's is trynna see who you is." she said using that thick country slang.

While we were talking three girls walked to our table looking at me kinda funny. I looked around trynna see why they were looking crazy. Boot could sense the tension so she spoke up.

"Hey y'all. This is my cousin, Kierra. Kierra, this is Camille, Meagan, and Jessica. She just moved back down here."

Their twisted up faces immediately changed into bright smiles.

"Hey", they said in unison.

"Hi", I shyly replied. I was always "shy" at first so I could see who they really were. Once I saw if they were cool people I became friendly. If they were still straight, then the real Kierra broke free. My wild, goofy, sarcastic side was unleashed.

They all talked amongst themselves as I scoped out my surroundings. Washington County had some characters. Some of these students looked so young. Others looked old enough to have teenage kids. I saw some of the skinniest people I had ever laid eyes on. Then I saw some folks who made me look like a size two. Like, good God. How did you get that big?

Scoping was cut short when the bell suddenly rang. On cue, everybody jumped up trying to rush out at the same time.

Me and Ariana stayed behind 'til the crowd died down.

"Alright girl, you ready? This is it!"

We started walking, "I suppose."

"Huh?" she stopped walking.

"I said I suppose."

She looked at me with confusion, "Suppose what?"

"Whatchu mean? I said I suppose. Like I guess I'm ready..."

She laughed, "That's all you had to say the first time."

I rolled my eyes playfully, "Ugh, whatever. Where is Mrs. Wheeler's class at?"

"That's around the corner from my class. Come on."

We turned the corner and walked in the class. Only a couple people occupied the desks and I headed straight to the back.

"You good, Kierra?"

"Yes," I lied.

"Cool. I'm about to head to my room. Imma meet you when the bell rings."

"Alright. I love you, Boot."

"Love you too!"

When she stepped out, several students rushed in. 3 seconds later the tardy bell rang. A middle-aged Caucasian lady stepped in and shut the door. Her smile looked so painful.

"Hello. I'm Mrs. Wheeler, but y'all know that cause I taught most of y'all last year in World History." Then she looked at me. Her smile grew if that was possible.

"Well I've never seen you before. Who are ya?"

I swear if I was ten shades lighter, my cheeks would be so red. The whole class turned around burning a hole in my face.

Suddenly I felt self conscious and extremely ugly. Their facial expression dropped my confidence level to a -3.

"She must can't talk!" some boy with a fro snickered.

That gained a few laughs.

"He-llo? is you deaf? Or nah?"

"She must be stupid and deaf."

I snapped outta my little daze and spoke up, "Don't do me. If I don't want to speak to y'all, I don't have to. I'm not obligated to answer your questions. So y'all can either suck it up or get over it. Thank you."

"Who tf is you talkin' to?" fro boy exclaimed.

"I'm sorry, who are you again?"

"Jon-"

I cut him off, "Exactly. You're irrelevant. And you're dismissed."

I rolled my eyes so hard I almost caught a head ache. The class was roaring with laughter but one guy in particular was laughing the hardest. He was light skinned and cuuuute.

"Chunked off! She gotchu man! You might as well put yo head down the rest of the period."

I smirked and he turned towards me.

"You funny asf. What's yo name?"

"Why?"

"Calm down. I ain't Jonathan."

I let my guard down and told him "I'm Kierra."

"I'm DJ." I smiled.

Question after question kept being thrown at me. I was beyond through with this 21 questions crap. Relief filled my body when the bell rang.
