I walked out the classroom with the geography field trip letter in hand. 'Medium suitcase with necessities, snacks allowed' it read. Would I meet Leo? If I did what would I say? After all, we haven't seen each other since last Esther Festival. Hopes and doubts rising in my heart, I took my bike out the bike shed and caught Isha waving at me. She ran over with a smile spread across her face. 'So excited about the trip you forgot about me?' she asked.
'No, it's not that,' I smiled, 'mum would be worried why I called her when I should be at school, so I've got to go home and phone her' I adjusted awkwardly.
'Sure! You really think I am so gullible? I know why you're so excited, you want to see Leo don't you?' she giggled budging my shoulder. I smiled nervously and rode home. Heart heavy with doubt, I rode home. There was loud disturbing barking and I thought it was Grandma Sheela's dog near our house. But only when I reached home did I realise it was my own dog Bailey. I calmed Bailey down wondering why he was mad and he led me into the house. I walked inside to see everything in shambles. The pillows were all over the floor; mum's favourite vase broken on the floor; the sofas were out of place; Bailey's toys thrown everywhere; all of the photos hung on the wall were now scattered all over the floor. For a moment I thought the yetis in the north pole had vacated and moved into my house. I scooped up Bailey in one hand and picked up my inflatable sword in the other. 'Hello? who is it, show yourself before I call the police!' I threatened. I heard rustling in the kitchen so I crept towards the kitchen inflatable sword at the ready to strike. I kept my eyes on the kitchen worktop as I moved forward- SQUEAK! I had stepped on Bailey's squishy toy. Great! Fear rose within me so I screamed 'DON'T HURT ME I'M INNOCENT OR I'LL GET BAILEY TO EAT YOU!' Bailey looked at me and whimpered then snuggled into my arms...
'BOO!' a deep familiar voice said behind me. I turned around to see 'DAD!' I hugged him tight and saw the light in his eyes. 'When did you get home from New York, how was your trip?'
'Oh it was great, but I missed my little monkey for sure! and I have some treats for you!' He went over to his bag and brought a big bag. He handed it to me. 'JELLY BELLIES!! MY FAVOURITE, aww thank you dad!!!' I opened the bag and stuffed a handful of Jelly Bellies in my mouth. The sour hard outer shell melted in my mouth, then came the chewy jelly inside. With all these amazing bouncy flavours floating around in my mouth I forgot about all my worries and went to pack my bag.
I hauled my pastel pink suitcase to my closet where I began packing. I packed a few pair of socks; my favourite pair of boots and trainers; some shirts in multiple colours; a couple of pairs of jeans; some skirts; silky dresses and my favourite teal jacket. I tried on my teal jacket in front of the mirror and checked if looked decent. The white fur around the collar brushed my neck and warmed me up. Putting my hands in the pockets of the jacket I felt a small piece of paper scrunched up. I took out the small paper in my pocket and opened it up remembering things I hadn't thought of in a while.
Flashes of memory flew in my head as I remembered moments from the Esther festival last year. Leo holding my hand; looking up at the sky lit with lanterns. Hands clasped together I began to remember Leo handing me a piece of crumpled paper. I remembered him handing me the paper and telling me to phone him. I looked at the paper in my hand and opened it up. Written on it was a phone number. Not any number. But Leo's phone number... I grabbed my phone and my first instincts were to phone the number up. I dialled the number onto my phone and called him. 'Hello?' I called. There was no reply just as I was about to hang up I heard a voice 'Hello? Who is this? I don't take adverts' said a low voice, 'hello?' he hung up. Leo couldn't recognise my voice...
A year ago after the Esther festival took place many things happened-including my dreams being crushed. My brain recollected the memories and played it for me to see all over again. It took me back to the day after the Esther Festival.
I called Leo on the phone. 'Hello Leo, this is Alya,' I said.
'Oh hey there!' a cheery voice came through.
'Hi, seems as you said you were staying at Weltyn for a few days maybe I could show you around?' I asked.
'Mmm, sure let's meet at the town temple at 10:00,' he replied.
'Sure, seeya there!' I said. I quickly got changed and headed for the town temple on my bike. I wondered what I'd say to him. hi?, no to casual. Good Morning! no to formal. I couldn't make up my mind so I just let it come out from the flow. I reached the temple to see it quiet, and a boy sitting on his bike waiting. He waved at me. I waved then wheeled my bike over to him. 'Someone's early!' he said sarcastically. I looked at my watch and it read 10:15. 'Oh god! I'm so sorry I kept you waiting!' I said, 'Anyways let's start!'. We rode our bikes downhill and to the sea's edge. We parked our bikes and walked to the bay. The early sun was hazy and shone over the glistening sea. We walked towards it and we both sat on the glowing grass. Sitting on the grass, we picked the flowers surrounding us and made daisy chains as long as my height.
