I pull into the driveway of my home and turn the keys in the ignition and step out. I make my way around the car to the back door and open it and take Elijah's seat-belt off.

"Hey, boy," I say stroking his thick coat. "This is home."

I gently attach Elijah's leash to his collar and start walking towards the door and he immediately follows suit. When I get in the house, I call out to Delilah and let her know I'm home. We have such a nice relationship. She's like the mother I never had.

After a minute or so, Delilah steps out of the kitchen and says, "Hi, honey. I see you've brought home a new friend! What's his name?"

"Elijah," I say, smiling. "But I'm sure he won't mind if you call him Eli. He's such a good dog, I'm happy to have him."

"Indeed he is," says Delilah, petting his fur.

My phone buzzes in my pocket with a text. I take it out and unlock the screen and see it's a text from my friend Devin. She's been my best friend since elementary school, but she moved away last year and she's come back to visit me like the awesome friend that she is. I open up the message and it says: Hey! What's up, Vi?

I respond: Nothin much. Just got a new dog! Lol, how about you?

She immediately texts back: Sweet! There's this party down at Rick's tonight at 8. Wanna be my DG?

I say: Sure. Why miss out on an opportunity to designate your drunk ass back home, haha

She responds: LOL! I promise I won't get too drunk. I'll be around to pick you up around 7 ish

Okay, I respond back.

I look at the time on my phone and see that its 5:45 P.M., so I tell Delilah I'll be going out and that I'll be back in a few hours.

"Okay, be careful hun. And have a good time," she says.

I go up the staircase and up to my room. My house has over 6 rooms and 4 bathrooms, so Devin will more than likely be crashing at my place so I make sure her room's in order. After that, I go next door to my room and into my bathroom to freshen up.

Ten minutes later, I step out of the shower and wrap myself in a towel and open the door to see Elijah just sitting there.

I laugh. "Hey, Eli. You hungry?"

He barks so I assume that's a yes. So, I fill up his food bowl but he doesn't touch it. He just continues staring at me. I walk over to my closet and pick out a fitted Aeropostale t-shirt and blue jean capris to wear with my Vans. I have a feeling I'm completely under-dressed, but who needs to get dressed up just to go to a party with underage drunks anyways.

After I'm dressed, I look over and Elijah is just laying in his doggy bed looking really sad. So I walk over to him and pet him and say, "Don't worry, boy. I'll be back in a few. Guard the fort while I'm gone, hm?"

Then I hear a car beep outside and I know that Devin's here. I grab my phone and make sure my hair and mascara looks good, and I leave the door open so Eli can roam the house and not be confined to my room waiting for me to get back.

"Hey!" Devin squeals. I am so happy to see my best friend. It sucks because she lives all the way in Miami while I live in boring Ohio. It warms my heart that she came all the way here to see me.

"Hey, hottie. How've you been?" I say

"Oh, usual. I missed you lots."

"You already know I missed your crazy ass," We both laugh. It's such a comforting sound.
