Chapter 1

The first moment I saw her, I knew she was special. I just didn't know how.

I was on a bench at the side of a footpath through the park. I had a to-go coffee cup in my hand. I remember the day vividly. The coffee was too weak. I always drink my coffee very strong. I always went to the same cafe, even though every day they made it too weak. I then always went and sat on the same bench in the same park. I don't know why I always do this, but I have been doing it for as long as I can remember.

I saw her sitting on the grass under a tree. It was so far away that it was almost unnoticable, but I could see her face like it was right in front of me. She shone like the sun on a summer's day, her hair shining in the sun like the moonlight on a quiet midnight ocean, her eyes so deeply blue you could swim in them, and so big and round, innocent and full of life. She was beautiful and different. I had to talk to her. It was a force inside me, pushing me to sit down next to her. She was lovely, so kind and friendly, sweet as honey and bright as a button. She had the most beautiful smile and it made me want to smile every time I saw it. I was smitten with her already, and I didn't even know her name.

I couldn't possible have known how she would change my life the most wonderful, terrifying ways.
