Chapter 9
We had walked through the forest for hours, but we were finally there at Midnight Peak. I held Maria, for I didn't dare let her go. We were going somewhere I could protect her for eternity.
We lined up at the edge. She was whispering something. I think she was praying.
We held hands asI trembled, though she stayed eerily calm and still. I softly counted, "One...
Two...
Three."
And together we stepped onto nothing.
