Maria

Chapter 4

I stared. I just sat and stared at her. She waved and smiled and came and sat next to me. I couldn't stop staring at her.

We talked and laughed and it was just as good as the first day. Even better.

I told her about myself. We took a walk and I showed her my tiny studio flat. Writers don't make as much as lots of people think, and I could barely hold down that place.

She told me she needed to go, she had to get home. I told her to stay but she wouldn't, although she left her details. Her phone number, her address and her name all on one sacred scrap of paper. Her name, it was the most amazing word in the world. It was like millions of beautiful bells, like themost peacefulmusic heaven can sing, like sweet honey dripping from my tongue every time I whispered it.

Her name was Maria.
