Kat hit the floor, hard enough to render her breathless but not hard enough to stop her from running like a pack of wolves were after her. Her pace was more suited for the olympics but she kept reminding herself that she needed to put as much space between her and the men as possible. She began running through different allies to try to put space between her and them.
Tire sounds started intervening with her hearing, she muttered a curse and casted her eyes over the alley she was in looking for a hiding place. A slow dread began working its way up her spine when she realised that there might be no escaping this.
She looked up, hoping to see an escape ladder to give her the leverage that she needed to escape. When her desperation was starting to take over, she finally saw one and almost cried out in relief.
Kat gave herself a mental pep talk as she ran on top the dumpster and launched herself in the air and grabbed onto the ladder. She felt herself slipping. Her desperation started overwhelming her again. She tightened her grip and slowly began ascending the ladder, carefull not to make any excessive noise.
Her phone began vibrating and she muttered a curse for leaving it on her. In what part of I don't want to talk to him he doesn't understand she thought. She sighed as she reached the top of the building and turned on her face link to talk to base.
A curly hair boy with green eyes popped onto her screen and he watched her with faint amusement.
"Caught some trouble have you?" he asked while trying to lock onto her coordinates. Jeremy Sumpter wasn't the best in his field for nothing. He was a technical genius in his own right, selling his inventions to the highest biddders before he even turned thirteen.
"Ok your gonna continue on the top of the building-"
"How did you know that?" Kat demanded," I didn't even tell you."
"We've been working together for the past two months and you still ask these irrelevant questions?"
She bit back the sarcastic remark and listened to the rest of her directions. She felt her pocket vibrate again and groaned loudly and scoffed when she heard Jeremy laughing at her.
"Still ignoring his calls?"
"Oh shut it,"Kat muttered darkly and Jerry roared with laughter. She was a little miffed that her partner was being entertained with her relationship woes.
Jerry sensing her discomfort took pity on her and decided to stop teasing her. They've became fast friends since their first meeting and he wasn't going to alienate his first friend that he made.
"Why don't you just talk to him. He reminds me of a dog with a bone. He's not going to relent until you talk to him. What did he do anyway? Besides being an egotistical jackass."
Kat couldn't help but laugh at the last statement. Hit the nail on that one didn't you Jere, she thought as she put the ear piece in and switched the link on headset. She began jogging to the eastern side of the building and jumped onto the next one.
"He wants me to meet his family next week. When we started this thing, he was all like he just intended it to be a fling and now I feel that we've entered the relationship zone. To be honest I don't even know if I'm that kind of person. I'm not even a people person. How I'm going to be a spy us beyond me."
Jeremy rolled his eyes at her rambling and wondered how she could not have seen this coming. A boy don't pursue a girl for three weeks straight to just want casual dating.
"He likes you. Just accept it and go and meet his family. Its not the end of the world, well not yet anyway. Suck it up, act like you actually have a vagina for once and take the stupid plunge. Besides what's the worse that can happen?"
Before she could answer, shots started firing at her. Shit she thought and ducked and slammed right through the door. She tumbled down some steps before she got back her footing, and started looking for a good place to launch an attack. Her hand went to her waistband to retrieve her gun and she loaded it with one quick motion.
"There are two coming down the stairs and one outside the building. If your going to attack I suggest you do it now."
No need to tell her that twice. She crouched down and waited for her attackers to appear. She squinted in the darkness but her eyesight had gotten better in it. She thanked her lucky stars that she had managed a hiding place for the element of surprise.
Kat saw the man enter and aimed her gun. She waited for the to men to enter so that she could eliminate them in one go. Her gun was specially made to take out more than one person with one bullet. There were only five in the world and she was fortunate to have one.
"Where's the little bitch? I can't see anything." Kat rolled her eyes at being called a bitch. Can't they think of better adjectives to descibe her. She needed them to be a little more close together before she took her shot. This wasn't like that movie Wanted and freaking bullets could curve. She needed to be careful.
The shorter out of the two walked up to the his partner and began talking to him in a different language.
"Russian I think," Jeremy voice came over like a loud stero in her ear."I suggest you take that shot now."
Kat cocked her game and aimed. The two men dropped unceremoniously on the floor and she walked out from her hiding space. She checked to see if they had anything that would give her an idea of who they were working for but came out empty handed.
"The other one is still there. Andie is outside waiting for the order.Give her the go head?"
She nod her head then remembered that he couldn't see her.
"Yea," she replied then began her descend slowly down the stairs in the building. She wasn't worried about Andie scewing up because she knew Andie was just as good as her. Probably even better. Kat opened the door and saw her leaning up on a motorcycle, textung away on her cellphone.
Andie barely looked up as she passed the extra helmet to her and tucked away her cell. She gave her a cheeky smile and motioned to her left and Kat saw the other body lying down in an awkward position. She shook her head slightly trying not to laugh at Andie's facial expression as Jeremy told them the safest way back to headquaters.
"Let's go," Andie said and they both got on the motorcycle and she drove off. She started singing Queen's Another one bites the dust much to Kat's amusement.
