Sleep is the devil.
It gives you an invitation to dull your senses that are on overload to rejuvenate and then someone comes and yank the wool from over your head. Literally.
"Get up Kitten, we have class."
Kat groaned and desperately searched for her fleece blanket that her Grams gave her for her last birthday. She strainfully cracked open her eyes to collide with a pair of blue orbs.
She stared at her roommate with the best bitch face she could muster at six a.m. and was rewarded with a dazzling smile. Rachel Fraser, known affectionately as Berry was holding a cup of what smelled like coffee. Kat quickly began her ascension of her bed to reach for it, only for the coffee gremlin to go her side of the room with it.
"You're a sleep killer Berry."
"And you're a pathetic excuse for a girlfriend but you dont hear me complaining. "
Kat gingerly ran her hand through her hair and made her way to her closet. She took out her uniform and watched it instead of looking at Rachel.
"So on a scale of one to ten, how badly did I fuck up?"
"Six because I fed him a bullshit lie that you where sleeping off a headache and that's why you weren't answering. "
"So my deduction is Jere forward his calls to you?" Kat asked as she gathered her stuff for the bathroom.
"No shit Sherlock. Just tell him the truth. I'm sure he'll understand."
"Of course. So Ian the reason that I'm not around is because I attend a school that's secretly funded by the government to train teenagers to become professional killers."
Rachel merely looked at her through her eyelashes. She picked up her bag and pointed at the steaming coffee.
"Drink that. You have fifteen minutes to get ready and please don't fall back to sleep," and with that Rachel left the room to a disgruntled Kat.
Kat stared for a minute after her friend and hurriedly got ready, thanking whoever that she just had a uniform to put on. She studied herself in the mirror. Her blue pleated skirt was mid thigh, she opted for the long sleeved white shirt instead of the usual short one and her blue tie with black stripes.
She remembered the first time she wore the uniform and the feeling of apprehension that came with it. She gave herself onemore look over, grabbed her bag and empty cup and made her down the stairs.
Her housemates were already scattered on the main floor. Some where in the kitchen finishing off breakfast and others where just milling about. The Sawnson Academy of Higher Education offered boarding to their students who want to experience that almost college life I.e. no parental supervision. The Board believe that they are preparing us for the outside world. Yea fucking right.
Kat went in the kitchen in search of Jeremy and found him putting the finishing touches in their lunch. They alternated between them, plus Rachel on who had to do it.
"So I'm going to talk to him after class. I'll text him and I'm going to and I quote "grow some balls"
Jere smiled at her because he knew how hard It was for her to talk about her feelings. He knew that Kat wasn't the touchy feely type, so he understood that this was alot for her to do.
"Let's roll out peeps!" yelled their over exuberant housemate and they couldn't help but laugh at Savanna as she passed them clapping her hands to get her point across.
"You would think that I'll be use to this by now," Kat wondered as Jere slung his hand over her shoulder.
"You're not in Kansas anymore baby," he said monotone and Kat shook her head. She still doesn't understand her housemates and pop culture references. When they're not quoting Tarantino or whatever God forbidden movie they deemed worthy, they're singing either 80's music or show tunes.
Kat paused as she came out the doorway. She took a deep breath and prayed to the heavens and God to grant her the strength that she would need to face her apprently DTR day.
