And tell me what got you hooked to this story ?
In the meantime, Josh was obsessed with the thought of finding Kevin as quickly as possible. It's been 5 days already and the killer did not take the bait, also known as Josh. He was also being paranoid. He thinks that everyone in the dorms is a suspect. So, he decided to act on his own to speed things up. Even though agent Gale Robinson strictly told him to be patient and stick to the plan.
Today, he made a checklist of the top 5 suspicious people he encountered during his runs through the dorms at midnight. He decided to inspect their rooms today. On top of that list was "The tall guy from room 105."
And so he did. He waited on a bench near the gate of the dorms for the tall guy to leave. He took a look at his watch. It's almost 7 AM. That's when the tall guy walked out of the dorms gate. Josh hid his face under the hoodie and watched the guy getting in a black convertible sports car, 2017 Mazda Miata, and drive away.
Now's my chance, he thought. He hurried to room 105 and started to pick the lock while looking around to avoid being seen. He eventually managed to open it and went inside the room, closing the door behind him.
He carefully walked around the room scanning everything with his eyes trying to see anything suspicious. His eyes looked like he didn't sleep for days. Dark circles were visible under his eyes. They were also looking red and seemed as if they were about to pop out. He actually looked older. In short, he looked like a crackhead.
He stopped and kneeled to take a look at the wooden floor near the coffee table. A piece was vaguely lighter in color than the other pieces of the floor. He touched it and thought, Hmm, This piece of wood looks brand new! I wonder why?
He thought maybe it was broken while moving the furniture in. Or perhaps a termite problem. He began to think it was not a big deal. So, he checked the rest of the room. There was this wooden, square coffee table, a single bed, a simple large wooden wardrobe, a sofa, and a TV on the wall.
He continued walking around the room. The room was extremely organized. The bed was tidy. The room was spotlessly clean. It looked like no one has been living here. This man has a major OCD problem.
What about the wardrobe? Josh opened the wardrobe and saw some clothes and shoes there. Then he pushed the clothes as far as he can to see the inside panel of the wardrobe. He touched the panel to look for a handle, a lock, or a latch that indicates the presence of a secret door. He didn't find anything. Then he put his head on that panel hoping he might catch a sound or something behind it.
Then he shook his head away and said to himself, "Get real, Josh. This isn't Narnia."
He stepped away and started touching and slightly punching the walls of the room. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary except for the tidiness of the room and the new wooden floor piece.
What is he suppose to do with that information? Nothing. Because he didn't think of these as clues. He was blinded by the purpose of finding big clues that he dismissed the less obvious ones.
So, he got out of the room feeling dissatisfied by the lack of leads. Then he locked it behind him and left.
At around 6 PM, Duke drove into the dorms parking lot. He stepped out of the car holding a bag of fast food as always and marched toward his room. He unlocked the door and stepped into his room. He immediately saw a little piece of paper on the ground. He usually puts that paper behind the door and closes the door on it and leave it hanging there. If anyone opens the door, then the paper would fall down, which is exactly what happened here.
Duke's eyes were wide open. He said, "No. It can't be."
He rushed to open the wardrobe and saw that the clothes were pushed away. He panicked then slid the back panel of the wardrobe revealing a door that leads to the basement. He unlocked it and opened it. Then he slid the panel back in its place. He went down after he locked the door. He was running scared that Kevin might have escaped after all, even with all the precautions that he made to ensure him never escaping.
He reached another door in the bloody basement and opened it.
That's when he saw Kevin still in bed holding his bladder and saying, "Oh, thank God. Quick. I really need to use the bathroom."
Duke released a sigh of relief and put his hand on his heart trying to calm down. Then he couldn't help but smile.
Darn it. Josh was so close :(
