I

I pulled my car into the parking lot of a large, very old and worn-down building. The sign on the front read Radley Sanitarium, and beneath it in smaller letters, Long Valley, New Jersey.

Today was my first day working here. I was transferred from the Radley Sanitarium in Pennsylvania after it was shut down and remodeled into a hotel.

I worked as a nurse and counselor for patients in mental rehab. Psychology had always been interesting for me, and I always loved counseling people and making them feel better.

But back in Pennsylvania, the patients rarely got better. In fact, most of the time they became worse as time went on. Something weird was going on at that place. Then again, that whole town was messed up.

I walked in and, just like the outside of the building, the lobby was old, dank, depressing. I went to the front desk. "Hi, today is my first day working here."

The receptionist sitting at the front desk hit a few buttons into her computer. "Last name?"

"Riley. R-I-L-E-Y."

"And your first name?"

"Elizabeth."

"Okay, you're good to go. Take the elevator up to floor thirteen and go to the front desk up there. They should be able to help you there."

"Thank you." I walked in the elevator and hit the number thirteen. The elevator was old and creaky, like it could break any second and plummet to the basement.

I got off the elevator and stepped into the lobby area of floor thirteen. Once again, it was depressing. Stained white tile, light blue walls with randomly scattered brown spots, small flickering light fixtures.

I talked to the receptionist in the floor thirteen lobby. "Hi, I'm Elizabeth Riley. Today is my first day working here."

"Okay, I'll have Alyssa, one of our nurses show you around."

"Alright, thank you."

For the next half an hour, Alyssa showed me where all the medications were kept, where the break room was, and she introduced me to a few other nurses, Brooke, Maddy, Sammy, and Lucas. She seemed pretty cool. I could tell we would be good friends.

"I'm sure you know the system since you worked at Radley back in Pennsylvania, but I'll tell you anyway. So you'll be a normal nurse for a bunch of people, you know, give them meds and stuff, but you'll only counsel one person," Alyssa told me handing a small file. "Here's the patient file for the person that you're counseling." She smirked. "He's really hot."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Too bad he's crazy."

"Yeah." I opened the file, yet to look at it. "See you later."

"Bye!"

I looked at the patient file. Patient name, Grayson Dolan. Next to his name was his picture. Damn, he really was hot.

I read through the file, not finding a whole lot other than his med records.

The last thing I saw in the file was the reason for admittance.

Below that it said, "insanity plea."
