I heard a scream. My eyes snapped open to the screeching sound, confused I rose up from my bed and sat down on it listening for any more sound. A shatter is what I heard next then, dead silence.
I cautiously opened my door peaking out, checking for any signs of danger, when I was sure no one was up stairs I slid out of the room and tip toed down the hallway and slowly started descending the stairs. I stopped on my tracks when I noticed the broken furniture scattered everywhere.
I was shivering at that point, shacking from head to toe, through the deafening silence I could hear my heart's rapid beat, so loud I could have sworn I could hear it's echo.
A small creak from the wooden floor made me stop in my tracks then a tick sound followed by a fired and the front door closing, I started at my journey again only to stop dead again but this time by the scene that lay in front of me.
Broken glass and wood littered on the floor creating a huge mess, but that's not what fazed me, no, it was the lifeless body laying in a pool of fresh blood with another body struggling to breath. I hurriedly ran to them not caring about the glass pricking through my skin underneath my feet.
"Mama papa, no no no no no!"
Gloria wasn't moving, my mother was gone. Staring into her eyes, I had to hold back the chocked sob trying to escape my trembling lips, the women who raised me as her own was dead. Gone forever.
A choked cough caught my attention, it was Vincent, my father. He reached his hand out to me, that I reached for with the one that wasn't holding my mother's ice cold one, his was getting just as cold.
"Papa..." I choked out "who did this? " I asked.
He barley shook his head before letting go of my hand, "Go." Was his last word and breath before his head fell limb to the floor. An indication he's dead.
"No papa no please stay, stay with me please!" I screamed.
The front door's loud bang brought me back to reality and that's when I felt the increasing heat of the fire. A hand roughly gripped my upper arm and tried to drag me away from the horrific scene, before I could struggle out of the grip a feminine voice whispered softly yet urgently in my ear; " it's okay. "
Somehow that comforted me for just a while, green eyes were reassuring me.
Loud footsteps snapped us back to the current situation, a big man appeared, he had a deep fresh cut over his right eyes, which had blood oozing out of it. Before I could assess any longer the girl with green eyes threw a piece of burning wood in his direction, it's sharp lit end pierced through into the mans eye socket, which I was assured was excruciatingly painful by his howl of pain.
Before I had any time to react, she pulled me along with her and we escaped, my heart wanted to stay, crying and begging but my legs and body couldn't stop running away from danger and moving forward.
She was faster than me so she dragged me behind her leading us into the woods. Not once did I ever look back, my legs and bare feet carried me through the trees stepping on the muddy ground, dodging and ducking branches, leaping over visible roots and some fallen branches. I don't know how long we were running for but it felt like a very long time, at some point it started raining.
We stopped by a small, well hidden, cottage in the deepest end of the woods, she lead me inside and got me cleaned up, all this while I was still in shock.
Once clean, I went into a bedroom to lay on the bed, the moment I heard the shower running my tears started streaming down and soaking the warm pillow, I let the sob out for the first time that night and pain swallowed me whole, it carved my heart with permanent grief...
I opened my eyes slowly to the early morning, the sun still not out yet. My heart felt heavy, for the past two years I've had the privilege of reliving the only thing I wish to forget, since that night I've only had one dream, a nightmare that I wish was not a reality. One cruel reality.
At first I'd wake up screaming and hysterically crying as months passed by I'd wake up shacking, some nights I'd struggle to breath but now all I feel is the heavy mountains weighing down my heart, I feel heavily burdened.
I checked the time and it was a few minutes past three. I've grown insomniac ever since, refusing to sleep, afraid of the trauma that awaits me, lurking in the shadows. My nightly torture.
Sabrina barging in my room had me raising from bed.
"Get ready. Five minutes." Then she walked out again not even bothering to close the door behind her.
I got up and changed into sweats and fitting top guided by what she wore. After brushing my teeth and washing my face I found her impatiently awaiting my arrival in the kitchen, a bottle of cool water in hand and another one, I assumed was mine, on the countertop with a towel laying beside it.
"Let's go." She said sharply, her usual smile wiped completely off of her features.
I followed her to the parking lot, a slender man, dressed in a similar way as us was leaning against Sabrina's beetle.
I furrowed my brows in confusion when I noticed Sabrina was not fazed by him and just kept walking.
"Sebastian, this is Victoria. Are we ready to go? " she asked the guy not bothered by my questioning look.
The guy Sebastian started walking off, with out so much as acknowledging me. He got in a black Mercedes with Sabrina following suite, I was right on her tale.
I got into the backseat while Sabrina took the front passenger seat. Once set Sebastian hit the gas and we were off.
We sped off into the early morning, after thirty minutes we turned left into the woods, he slowed his pace as we got deeper and deeper until we reached a small clearing.
We got out of the car, Sabrina was in a quiet argument with Sebastian, "she's not ready" was all I heard coming from Sebastian's mouth before they turned to look at me.
"You're going to learn how to fight." Sebastian retorted, "take off your shoes." I gave Sabrina a questioning look which she completely ignored. Sebastian was heading for the woods barefoot as well as Sabrina who was following right behind her.
I walked with them in silence after taking off my shoes, "do what we do" was all Sebastian said before heading off in a sprint not even looking back, Sabrina and I followed him but I was a bit behind.
We ran until I could see the sun starting to rise, I was breathless, my lungs and throat were on fire, I am not the world's most fit person if not the least. I stopped to catch my breath every now and then, only creating a bigger gap between myself and the two leading the way.
After what felt like forever we came back to the clearing and I felt like I was going to collapse, the sun was fully out now. Sabrina didn't look out of breath at all and Sebastian was facing away from me.
Sabrina with an expressionless face turned and started heading to him, when he turned around, the first thing I noticed were his eyes and featured; his skin was dark and beautiful, a shade darker than Sabrina's, his hair dark and curly and his eyes, sparkling green, identical to Sabrina's... are they related? They shared similar features.
The second thing I saw was even more unexpected; a short man with tanned skin, blue eyes and sharp features, he was good looking but that's not what I was staring at...
He had wings, big wings that touched the ground trailing behind him, they were the colour of midnight matt black, they were beautiful.
"Hello Victoria," the man said," I'm Odin and that over there, "he pointed behind me" is my brother Orion. We will be teaching you how to fight." I looked behind me to find a man with looks identical to Odin's but instead of black wing he had snow white ones, he gave me a nod of acknowledgment.
I looked to Sabrina who hasn't said a word to me this whole time, "What is going on? Sabrina explain." I said to her sternly.
