Turmeric (Curcuma longa)
Turmeric is a belonging to the family. It is native to the Indian sub-continent and . It is most commonly used as a flavoring agent in Asian cuisines and also for dyeing.
Turmeric powder has a warm, pepper-like flavor. Its earthy, -like aroma can be quite pungent.
It is mainly used to give a distinct bright yellow color to curries and it is one of the primary ingredients of curry mixes. Due to this, it has earned the title "The Golden Spice."
Turmeric is believed to have numerous benefits including
Providing relief from mild cough and sore throat.
Reducing swelling and pain.
Cleanse for acne.
While turmeric has it's benefits nothing is without its negatives
Turning everything in contact bright yellow especially skin.
Chances of allergic reactions.
Turmeric has long been used in medicine but there is no confirmed to back up its uses. Just as individuals differ from one another so do the results of it's benefits. Yet there is one confirmed fact that it makes food yum!
Turmeric drinks
Golden Milk
Ingredients
2 cups of almond milk
1tsb Turmeric powder
1tsb fresh grated Ginger
1-2 pinches of Black Pepper
1-2 Cinnamon sticks
2 Cardamom pods
Honey to taste
Method
1. Heat the milk on medium flame.
2. Add all the remaining ingredients and mix.
3. Continue heating on medium flame but do not boil.
4. After 5 minutes, strain the milk.
5. All done!
Notes
Any milk can be used. It's not necessary to use Almond Milk.
The Honey can be substituted with Maple syrup or plain Sugar.
The Cinnamon Sticks/Cardamom pods are optional.
The milk should be heated for at least 5 minutes on low flame so that the turmeric is cooked or it will give a bitter taste and will have a sharp raw smell.
