Until we have seen someone's darkness, we don't really know who they are.

What was it? A crime of passion? I even didn't know whether it was true or not. And if it was not true, what was the truth ? If it was true, why did it happen? There were so many questions running through my mind.

I was sitting on my relaxing armchair that morning. As usual, I was thinking about whatever had happened in the past few days. And what if it hadn't happened? Why did it happen?

I got ready for the school. When I was about to leave for school, I saw in the daily newspaper that the final examination of Ben's body was complete and the next day, his funeral would be held.

Carrying sorrow in my heart, I reached my school. I saw Charlie after a very long time. He had gone with his father on some adventurous trip. When he had gotten the message about Ben,  he immediately came back and I could see misery in his eyes.

I reached the class from where Freddy pulled me to the washroom. He said, "Kate has not came today. Brother, we have just today to find out the truth because tomorrow it's the day of the funeral. "

"Yes," I agreed.

We planned the after school investigation at Ben's place. After school, we went there as planned to begin with the search to find what exactly had happened that day.

We decided to enter Ben's house from the backyard. Ben's mother was not in the house that time as her car was not parked at its usual place. Maybe, she was preparing for Ben's funeral.

We went up to Mrs. Mathews room from the backyard and began our search.

"Go, Freddy, look up there, " I said, pointing towards the drawer.

He searched the drawer and  found a mobile phone.

"Be quick! Just check whose phone it is."

"It's Mrs. Mathews's. I can see the wallpaper."

"Search every call and every message to her on that day. Let me know if anything is strange."

"Look, Dustin! She received 9 missed calls and received 4 calls from an unknown number between 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. that day. "

"Search for any unusual message."

"Yes! She even received a message from that number at 7 p.m."

We opened the message and saw it. It was written in bold, italic letters.

'You try to do what you are planning tonight, and you both are dead. '

"What does that mean, Dustin?"

" It's clear evidence that someone was trying to blackmail them!"

"But how can we know whether any of this is related to Ben's murder?"

"We should see the gate. Maybe we can find something there."

We didn't have to search for anything. It was right in front of us. Beside the shoe rack was a pair of black men's boots of which Mrs. Mathews was surely not the owner. And the size didn't seem to be that of Ben. So it was clear that there was a chance that around these days there had been another man at the house.

"Dustin, there is a CCTV camera at the top of the gate,"Freddy stated.

"Do you remember, Ben once told us where his family hid the keys of his VCR? " I continued.

"Yes, I do. In the collar around the neck of George. "

We went to George's kennel and took the key. We started the VCR and set up the time around which Ben died.

After a long time analyzing, we saw it. A man entered the house at exactly 8:42 wearing the same boots. We were right about it. Then it came to both of our minds at the same time.

Freddy rushed to find Ben's autopsy report and the photo. He found it in the evidence file of Ben's death.

We were right about it. The time when the photo was clicked was 2 minutes after that man had entered the house while he was holding the blade. It meant that it was this man who had been after Ben that night. Ben died between 8:30 - 9:00. That was also around the time when the man entered the house, clearly proving the involvement of this man in the murder.

"Maybe this man messaged Mrs. Mathews about killing her. In that case Mrs. Mathews should know something about it," I said.

When we were leaving through the backyard, we found footsteps of around the same size as was of the man whose boots we found.

The steps were leading to the garage but they were not coming back. We went and opened the garage and no one could ever have imagined or known what we found.

A body hung from the cliff of garage. It seemed like a suicide. That man was the very same man we found in the CCTV footage.

This time, I swear I wasn't able to come up with a single theory. I couldn't figure out what was happening. It was out of the scope of what I could think. The closer we got to a suspect, the more it pushed us somewhere else.

We quickly informed the police and they came and took the body. The chief even warned us to stay away from all this. But we knew that we needed to do something to figure out what had happened as soon as possible.

But whatever we knew wasn't much to suspect anyone. So we decided to stay quiet for the next day. To give Ben a perfect good bye on his funeral. I even couldn't sleep that night again.

Next morning, I went to the funeral and it was  completed. Our very dear friend was now gone for sure. We weren't even able to  find out who was responsible for his death. However, we told whatever we found out last day to Charlie and Lucy. We decided to keep Kate out of this.

We also decided to tell the police about all the evidences we found at Ben's house the last day.

Then, we decided to go to our homes, get ready and come back again to finally bring justice to Ben.

Then, that happened. Which no-one could ever have thought about. After Ben's funeral and the autopsy of the body we found at Ben's garage, the first arrest of this case was made.

That man had been Ben's father. He didn't die of a car accident as Ben had told us before. He was very much alive till the day we discovered his body hanging from the garage. Where he had hung himself to death.

The more shocking news was the one that Mrs. Mathews had been arrested by police.

She was charged guilty. Guilty for the murder of Ben Mathews
