Yato shot up as he felt beads of sweat roll down his forehead. "Yukine!" He yelled as he got up and began to run. He heard Yukine's scream in the far distant and ran as fast as he could, stumbling across the bumpy ground. He turned the corner and saw Yukine huddled in a corner, his bright blue
borderline being the only thing protecting him from the group of phantoms banging against it's shining surface. "SEKKI!" Yato yelled out. Yukine perked up as he transformed, his borderline now disappearing.Yato jumped from wall to wall, cutting through each phantom. Yato began to pant as he cut through the last phantom, hugging his sword close. Yukine began to tremble as he switched back to his human form. Yato held Yukine tightly as his small body shook. "Yukine, are you okay?!" Yato asked as a tear ran down his own face from the pain. Yukine was unresponsive, his shock flowing through his whole body. Yato gently rocked back and forth, gently caressing Yukine's golden hair. "Yukine, please answer me!" Yato cried. Yukine began to sob loudly, gripping Yato's jacket. "Y-Yato, I-I'm scared... It's really dark..." Yukine whispered, an obvious tremble in his voice. Yato stares into Yukine's eyes before a loud gasp left his mouth. "Y-Yukine... your eye..."
A tear rolled down Yato's cheek as he stared at Yukine's now lifeless, dull gray eye. Yukine came to and waved his hand in front of his face. "Y-Yato, why can't I see out of my left eye?" He asked, trying to sound calm. "I think it was the phantoms... some phantoms have the ability to take body parts instead of the soul..." He said, his arms wrapped around Yukine's body. Yukine shook as he cupped his hand over his eye. "A-Am I gonna be like this forever..?" He asked, slowly letting the words slip out of his mouth. Yato shrugged gently as he looked at Yukine's eye again. "It looks like you will... I'm so sorry Yukine..." Yato said as he held Yukine.
Yukine sat on the ground after Yato let him go and stared forward, the imbalance in his vision bothering him. Yukine stumbles across the ground, attempting to adapt to his new state. "H-How'd it take my eye?" Yukine asked as he stood up straight. "It depends on the type of phantom. Some phantoms aren't strong enough to take over the whole being, so they take a part from that being to make them stronger. The phantom that took your eye is now stronger. A phantom's vision isn't the best, so they're triggered by sound, or sudden movement. Now that the phantom has your eye, his vision is stronger, making hunting easier for him." Yato explained.
Yukine closed his one functional eye, a stream of tears rolling down his face. "Being dead isn't enough, is it? No, my life has to become even more hellish, right? I mean, what's gonna be taken away from me now?" He cried. Yato gripped his heart, falling to the ground. "Nothing will! I won't let anything else hurt you!" Yato screamed before the pain became too much, and he passed out.
