A Lie

What I'm saying now is a lie. My name is Melody Rosanne Fins, and until yesterday I was completely normal. Two days ago I was just a normal teenager with average grades and little to no hand eye coordination. That was until yesterday when a horse bit me. You see, my mother has always been deathly afraid of creatures of the equine variety. She's so scared of horses, she won't even drive in the country for fear of spotting one. However, last week I turned eighteen and decided it was high time I figured out what was so scary about horses. I decided to ask my friends Percy and Anneliese if they knew of any places with horses open to the public. Percy told me there was a place where they ride called Pegasus. He told me he rode a black stallion named blackjack, and Anneliese rode a tan stallion named porkpie. They also had friends who rode horses named Tempest and Arion.

I decided to take a look into the place and drove there two days ago. Immediately I knew I was going to love it. The beautiful horses, the wide arena, the smell of fresh hay and oiled tack; it was like a dream. The first lesson was free so I decided to give it a try. After grabbing a helmet and heading back to the stables, the instructor introduced me to a white-coated mare with a silver mane named Artemis. She was stunning. After petting her and getting more comfortable around her, the instructor showed me how to put her tack on. We placed a pad, blanket, and saddle on her back. After that the instructor helped me tighten the girth before putting the bridle on Artemis. Finally, after bringing her into the arena, it was time for my first ride.

We started slow, with a worker leading the horse. After five or ten minutes, the worker unhooked the lead rope and walked beside me as I rode. Finally, about ten minutes later, I finally got to ride by myself completely. Was I scared? At first yes, but the more I rode the more I relaxed. While riding Artemis there were several times I thought I saw silver feathers on her, but when I would look again all I saw was her regular fur. I rode Artemis for an hour or two before I decided that I should be getting back home soon. A worker helped me dismount, then I led Artemis back to the stables. I took her tack off and brushed her before petting her and saying goodbye. To my surprise she nudged me with her head, then bit my arm. I gasped in surprise and stepped away from her, shocked that she did such a thing. I looked back at her one last time before leaving and was surprised to see she had long silver wings, but when I blinked they were gone.

Once I got home I looked at my arm. It didn't hurt but there was definitely going to be bruise. Not thinking too much of it, I decided to turn in for the night. As I slept, I had bizarre dreams. In theses dreams I was flying, but I wasn't myself. In the dreams I stood on all four and had large silver wings growing out my back. I would rear on my hind legs before galloping, and flying, into the sky just as the first rays of dawn graced the horizon. Then the dream changed to fire as I woke up with a searing pain in my arm. I screamed, looking at where Artemis had bit me the previous day. Where there should have been only a bruise, there was now a raised spider bite-like bump in the shape of a wing.
