Calum has been coming to our house everyday for about 2 weeks now. He and Finn have gone swimming a couple of times, and to the park a couple of times and usually I tag along with them. Today Calum and Finn are meeting up with the other guys and their buddies so I decided to hang out with some of my girl friends.
I put on a purple dress, only because all my jean shorts are dirty, and get ready to meet my friends Christine and Maddie for lunch at our favorite local café. I slip on my converse and head out the door.
"Hey Christine." I say. Christine is always early, and Maddie is always late. I feel like that's why the three of us work so well together as friends, because we're all opposites: Christine is more reserved, Maddie is a borderline slut, and I'm a happy medium between the two of them.
"So how late do you think Maddie will be?" Christine asks.
"Well we told her 5 minutes earlier than we were actually meeting and we were supposed to meet here like 2 minutes ago so my money's on another 5 minutes." I say.
"Well guess who's wrong bitches?" I hear Maddie from behind me.
"Oh my God, Maddie Paterson is actually on time for something!" Christine exclaims over dramatically. "Since when does that happen?"
"Ha ha very funny!" Maddie says sarcastically. "You know I'm actually really proud of myself, I'm on time and I look presentable. Usually with me it's either one or the other and I typically choose looking presentable."
"Maddie you're the prettiest one out of all of us so shut up." I say.
"Yeah but I don't get tan, I mean look at you guys," She says pointing to Christine. "You went to Bora Bora for like a week and you look Mexican." Maddie then points to me, "and you've just been hanging around here and you're already two or three shades darker."
"Massey party of 3." the hostess says.
"Of course you used your last name." I say with a laugh.
"What? It's professional." Christine argued as we are lead to our table.
"Anyway, the reason I look so tan is because Finn and I have been going to his 'big brother's' pool almost every day this week." I say.
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that. So is he cute?" Maddie asks.
"Normally I'd yell at you for asking that question, which you ask every time I talk about a new guy, but yes he's really hot." I say thinking about Calum being shirtless with all his tattoos showing.
"So come on give us details, what's his name? What does he look like? Is he tall?" Maddie says bombarding me with questions, like usual.
"Shut up Maddie, the most important question is how is he with Finn?" Christine says.
"Well his name is Calum, he's got black hair and brown eyes and his arms are so muscular like oh my God, and he's at least 6 foot tall, and he's really funny, and the best part is that he's really good with Finn. Like he gets that Finn doesn't want to talk all the time and Finn even let's Calum play with his Legos." I say trying to remember if that's all the questions they asked.
"Wait, seriously? He doesn't even let me play with his Legos and I've known him for years!" Maddie exclaims.
"Maybe you scare him," Christine suggests. "I mean you kind of scare me sometimes with your rebellious attitude and out going personality and I swear you have a different guy each week."
"It's every four days actually," Maddie says jokingly, "and what does that have to do with anything?"
"Nothing, I just like messing with you." Christine states plainly. "But we aren't talking about your guys, we're talking about Logan's guy."
"Right, so do you like him?" Maddie asks. The question kind of caught me off guard.
"Well I mean he's really attractive and we've been spending a lot of time together but there's no way Calum would ever like me back. I mean I'm Logan McGee, that girl who kinda went a crazy after her dad died, I'm still sorry about that by the way." I say.
Right after my dad passed away I got really depressed and I thought going to all types of parties would make me happy. I pretty much ditched my friends and got drunk every weekend until Maddie and Christine sort of held an intervention for me, and I'm really thankful that they did.
"Hey, don't beat yourself up about that, you were just trying to cope." Christine says.
"Maybe Calum can be your new way to cope." Maddie says.
"Yeah right, plus I'm pretty sure he has some coping to do himself." I say remembering what he had said about his tattoos being for his sister.
"That's even better! Then you guys can help each other cope and then you'll both be happy and it will be super cute, don't you think Christine?" Maddie says way too excitedly.
"What I think is that we've used the word 'cope' too much in the past minute." She says.
"What I think is that I'm hungry and that we should order some food soon." I say, opening the menu and really hoping we can drop this conversation about Calum.
This is the first day I haven't seen him since the summer started, even on the weekends when he wasn't scheduled to hang out with Finn he'd still stop by for like an hour or two just to check in. At first I thought it was kind of weird hanging out with Calum and Finn all the time but now I think I'm actually starting to miss him.
