It was not unusual for restaurants to be closed on Mondays. On his day off he did laundry, cleaning and occasionally took a trip to the store. He didn't need a lot of food, but he needed toothpaste, soap, shaving cream and toilet paper. He shopped early so the soup would have time to simmer.

Pacing, he wondered if she would really come. He was glad; she had not followed the weather.

"When do you want to eat?"

"I'm starving."

He liked that she ate. Some woman picked like birds, but she ate with a great appreciation.

He served the two bowls. "I bought bread, so it can't compare to Ava's."

"I like her and she is a fabulous pastry chef."

"She'd be pleased that you said that, because she likes you too."

They ate in silence, everything he wanted to say he couldn't. When they finished, she took the bowls. "That was delicious. House rule, you cooked, I'll clean up."

"I can do it. You have your snowflakes."

"I don't mind, typically I cook and clean up."

"I can't imagine you two eating in every night."

"We don't as much as I'd like. Lucas' house cleaner takes care of most of the other domestic chores."

"He has you living like a queen."

"I suppose so."

"I just never thought you would choose the luxury life over... over things I thought you wanted." Lucas' revelation had been nagging at him.

"What do you think I wanted?" she asked, as she was loading the bowls in the dishwasher.

"Kids... marriage... Lucas told me he doesn't want either."

"Well, it's complicated."

Oliver could tell she was evading the subject. He wondered just what it's complicated meant.
