Dear Mrs. Liston,

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your husband, Lieutenant Brian H. Liston, who had volunteered to serve his country as an American Soldier, and who was a good man to all who knew him. This tragedy has taken this fine young man from his family and his friends. Words cannot and will not describe to you how sorry I am about this tremendous loss and how much Brian's death has and will continue to impact those of us still serving.

Vivianne stared at the letter of condolence. Her eyes glazed over with tears as they continued to scan over the piece of paper. The cool metal of her husband's dog tags dug into her palm as she slowly slid to the floor, her back against the wall.

She didn't know how long she sat there, reading the letter over and over, memorizing each devastating word. She swallowed hard and took a deep breath as she finally gained her senses back. Her hand that held Brian's identity shakily came to rest on her slightly swollen belly.

"You'll never know them, Brian. But they will know you. Wait for me?" Her voice broke and tears gathered in her eyes.

She swore she could hear his soft whisper in the dead silence of the apartment,

"You know I will."
